After not fielding a varsity team last year due to low numbers, getting a team on the field Thursday night was win No. 1 on the season for Orchard View.

Unfortunately, the first win in the standings will have to wait at least a week. The Cardinals suffered a tough 64-16 loss to a good Reed City team on opening night Thursday.

Orchard View opened the scoring in the first quarter on a 61-yard run by Alexander Theile along with a successful two-point try put the Cardinals up 8-0. Reed City responded with 32 unanswered points in the first quarter and 16 more in the second quarter to take a 48-8 lead into halftime.

The Coyotes added another touchdown in the third before Orchard View answered with a five-yard touchdown run. Reed City added one more touchdown in the third for the final score of 64-16.

Orchard View was led on offense by Theile, who rushed five times for 72 yards and one touchdown. Stephon Oakes added three yards rushing on seven attempts and was 1-for-1 passing for 16 yards.

The Cardinals were led on defense by Theile who led the way with four tackles. Oakes and Zachery Peterson added three tackles each.

Orchard View falls to 0-1 and will take on North Muskegon next Friday at home at 7 pm.
