Oakridge started the new football season on the right foot Thursday night, knocking off Sparta 30-14. 

The Eagle offense played a clean first game, allowing zero sacks and finishing with no turnovers. Quarterback Matt Danicek led that effort, passing for 208 yards and two touchdowns and adding a team-high 86 rushing yards and score on the ground.

Evan Miller caught both touchdown passes from Danicek. Ty Maitland led Oakridge with 67 receiving yards on four catches. Trevor Jones carried the ball 16 times for 65 yards.

Brody Jennings led the defensive effort with eight tackles. Danicek and Brian Elizondo both posted interceptions on defense. 

Oakridge improves to 1-0 to start the year and will travel to Muskegon Catholic Central next week.
