The Ludington boys soccer team remained unbeaten on the season in their West Michigan Conference opener against Hart Monday, winning 5-2.

Nate Wagner led the Oriole attack with a goal and an assist. Spencer Holmes, Ryan Kandalec and Aiden Malburg each scored once for Ludington. 

The Pirates effort was led by Adan Cruz, who managed a goal and an assist. Josue Salgado also added a goal in the loss. Pirate keeper Kyan Clark had 14 saves on the night.

Ludington improves to 6-0-1 overall this season and 1-0 in the WMC. Hart is now 2-2 overall and 0-1 in the conference.

EAST GRAND RAPIDS 4, WESTERN MICHIGAN CHRISTIAN 0 — The Warriors battled hard for a half, but the game got away from them after the break in a 4-0 loss. 

WMC trailed just 1-0 after a tight first half, but the Pioneers scored two quick goals in the second half. They added a final tally with around 11 minutes left. 

Jared Olsen made six saves in the net for WMC. East Grand Rapids outshot the Warriors 10-5.

Western Michigan Christian falls to 2-5 on the season. They host Manistee next Tuesday for their next match.

Fruitport shuts out Coldwater (Saturday)

The Fruitport soccer team grabbed a shutout win over Coldwater Saturday to improve its record to 3-2. Fruitport won by a score of 5-0.

Jackson Rebone led the offensive attack with three goals. Isaac Vandermolen had a goal and an assist. Elijah Aldridge added a goal while Jorge Burgos-Young had two assists and Ryan Mitchell had one. 

Justin Laus made three saves in the net during the shutout effort. 

Ludington ties Cedar Springs, blows out Wisconsin team (Saturday)

The Orioles came away with their first tie of the season before picking up a runaway win Saturday.

Ludington battled Cedar Springs to a 0-0 tie in their first weekend match. Connor Rudki made three saves in the net.

In a second game against Manitowoc, Wisconsin’s Lincoln High, Ludington’s offense found its groove in an 8-0.

Parker Wendt led the attack with a hat trick of three goals. Lucas Peterson, Steven Stidham, Nate Wagner, Yebe Borema and Reinhold Heinrich each added a goal. 

Spencer Holmes facilitated several scores, totaling three assists. Peterson and Aiden Malburg both had an assist for the Orioles. 

Rudki and Caleb Sheldon split time in the net in the win. Ludington is now 5-0-1 on the season.

Warriors come away with split up north (Friday/Saturday)

Western Michigan Christian’s soccer team traveled north for a pair of games this weekend and came home with a win and a loss.

The Warriors beat Traverse City Central 4-0 Friday night before falling to Leland 1-0 on Saturday. Tekalegn Vlasma led the offense against TCC with a pair of goals.

Matthew Bradford-Royle and Charlie Buursma both scored once. Lucas Dick had two assists, while Gavin Risken and Ashton Leffring had one each. 

In the loss to Leland, WMC had more time of possession and more shots on goal, but couldn’t convert any offensive chances. The Warriors are 2-4 on the season.

Fremont falls to Grant, Kenowa Hills (Saturday)

The Fremont soccer team suffered a pair of losses over the weekend, falling 4-3 to Grant and 7-1 to Kenowa Hills.

In the first game against Grant, the Packers came back from a 3-0 deficit in the second half to tie the game in the second half. However, the Tigers scored on a penalty kick with just minutes remaining to take the 4-3 win.

John Vissia had a goal and an assist, while Deagan Klimerk and Tee Ward both netted a goal. Ben Mellema made six saves and had an assist. Caleb Vissia made three saves for the Packers.

Jude Fair scored Fremont’s lone goal in the second game. Caleb Vissia made four saves, while Mellema made three. Fremont is now 2-3 overall this season.
