The Lincoln High School football team came a long way from Manitowoc, Wisconsin to play Mona Shores on Friday night and found out how good Michigan football can be.
Mona Shores showed off its high-powered offense, beating Lincoln 48-20 at Sailor Stadium in its 2022 season opener.
The Sailors’ new quarterback, sophomore Johnathon Pittman, had a terrific debut, completing 9 of 11 passes for 214 yards and two touchdowns. He also rushed the ball seven times for 47 yards.
Senior running back Dahmir Farnum also stood out, rushing 11 times for 130 yards and two touchdowns.
The third big offensive star was senior wide receiver Jaylen Vinton, who had four catches for 157 yards and two touchdowns, and also threw a 28-yard touchdown pass.
Vinton’s night could have been even better, but he had a 74-yard punt return touchdown called back because of a penalty.
The Sailors will visit an always tough Rockford next Thursday.
