Ludington’s football team opened the season in thrilling fashion, picking up a 37-31 overtime win over Petoskey. 

The Orioles led by 12 points in the fourth quarter before Petoskey came back to tie the game with just over a minute remaining. 

Ludington got the ball first in overtime and scored on a 6-yard run by Luke Hackert. The two-point try failed, leaving the Orioles up 37-31. On Petoskey’s possession, the Northmen had one final play on fourth down to tie the game, but the Oriole defense came up with a huge stop at the 1-yard-line to end the game. 

Ludington opened the scoring with 8:53 remaining in the first half on a 17-yard rushing touchdown by Trey Forfinski. Petoskey responded on the ensuing kickoff with a 93-yard return for a touchdown to tie the game at 7 a piece with 8:38 remaining in the first quarter. 

Ludington pulled back ahead on a one-yard run by Forfinski to go up 13-7. Petoskey again ran the kickoff back for a TD, this time 84 yards, to even the score after a missed PAT.

Petoskey scored later in the second to take a 19-13 lead. The Orioles then tied the game on a 5-yard pass from Luke Hackert to Lucas Lamen with no time remaining in the half to tie the game 19-19 at halftime. 

Ludington scored the lone touchdown of the third quarter on a 39-yard run by Hackert, taking a 25-19 lead. Hackert added another score early in the fourth from six yards out to make it 31-19 with 11:57 to play.

Petoskey responded with a touchdown at the 10:36 mark on a 41-yard pass to make it a 31-25 game. The Northmen tied the game with 1:03 remaining in the fourth on a 9-yard run. 

Hackert went 17-for-28 passing for 213 yards and one touchdown and three interceptions. He also added 102 yards and three touchdowns on 19 rushes.  Forfinski ran the ball 24 times for 181 and two touchdowns along with one reception for 10 yards. Aidan Gilchrist added 106 yards on four receptions. 

On defense, Ludington was led by Lamen with nine tackles, including one for a loss. Forfinski added five tackles and one interception. 

The Orioles move to 1-0 on the season and will take on Shelby next Thursday at  Shelby at 7 pm.
