Softball roundup: Ravenna keeps its great season alive with a tight 3-2 victory over Kent City in Division 3 pre-districts

The Ravenna softball team escaped with a tight 3-2 victory over Kent City on Tuesday in a Division 3 pre-district game at Montague High School.

Emma Gillard was the starting pitcher for Ravenna, tossing four innings while giving up only two hits and striking out six. Addison Gillard pitched the last three innings and got the win, giving up two hits and striking out four.

Leading hitters for Ravenna were Emma Herremans with a triple, Kara Postema and Addison Gillard with doubles, and Emma Gillard and Amelia Porter with one hit apiece.

Ravenna advances to play North Muskegon on Saturday in the first game of the district tournament.

Hart gets past Hesperia 11-10 in pre-district matchup

Ali Townsend and Emma Joppich each had two hits and knocked in two runs for Hesperia in the loss.

Townsend also scored four runs for the Panthers.

Hart now moves on to play Mason County Central on Saturday in Division 3 districts.

Oakridge, Grand Haven and Grant win pre-district games

Oakridge snuck past Spring Lake 2-1, Grand Haven beat Muskegon 16-0 and Grant beat Fremont 8-1.

All three teams now advance to this weekend’s district tournaments in their respective classes.

Hudsonville splits with Mattawan, improves record to 29-6

The Eagles lost the first game 11-1 in five innings but bounced back to win the nightcap 6-2.

The Eagles fell behind 1-0 after two innings but tied it in the third. They trailed 2-1 after four innings, then took the lead for good with two runs in the fifth on a two-out, two-run double by Annika Talsma.

Hudsonville added three more runs in the top of the seventh.

Elly Koopman picked up the win on the mound, allowing only five hits, one earned run and one walk while striking out three.
