Muskegon Catholic baseball team returns to regionals after beating WMC in D4 district finals

The Muskegon Catholic baseball squad captured a Division 4 district title on Saturday after sneaking past Western Michigan Christian by a 3-2 margin.

Sam Convertini pitched 6 1/3 innings, allowing two runs on seven hits while striking out five batters.

Dewey Modaff recorded the final two outs to earn the save.

WMC’s Sam Sipe suffered the loss from the mound, allowing three runs on six hits and striking out four.

Modaff paced MCC offensively with three hits and an RBI while Croix Klint and Vince Szymanski each had a hit and an RBI.

The Warriors were led offensively by Sam Van Orman with two hits, including a triple and an RBI while Sipe had a hit and an RBI.

The Crusaders advanced to the district finals after beating Holton in the semifinals by an 8-1 margin.

Modaff and Sam Convertini each had two hits and two RBIs for MCC, while the Red Devils were led by Broderick Fialek with two hits.
