Western Michigan Christian baseball team improves to 8-4 overall and 6-1 in conference play with a three-game sweep of Manistee

The Western Michigan Christian baseball team grabbed a wild 10-8 victory over Manistee on Thursday in Lakes 8 conference action to secure a sweep of the three-game, two-day series.

The Warriors had a 4-1 lead heading into the fifth inning, then the Chippewas scored seven runs to take the lead.  The Warriors answered back by scoring three runs in the bottom half of the fifth and adding three more in the sixth.

Freshman Alex Wagenmaker had three hits and pitched the victory, scattering eight hits with five strikeouts and three walks.

Sam VanOrman had a single, triple and three RBIs for Western Michigan Christian, which totaled 14 hits in the game.

On Wednesday, WMC won both games of a doubleheader over Manistee, 11-4 and 9-8.

In the first game, WMC opened up a 5-2 lead in the second inning and scored five in the top of the seventh inning to fend off a late charge by the Chippewas. Samuel VanOrman led the team with three hits with Ethan Hill and Caleb McKay each collecting two. McKay had a base-clearing triple and five RBIs in the game.  Sam Sipe pitched the win, striking out eight.

In the second game, which was shortened due to daylight, the Warriors took the lead for good in the top of the fifth inning.  WMC was paced at the plate by Sipe with three hits and McKay, Sam Liggett and Jace VanderWeide with two apiece. VanderWeide led the team with four RBIs.  Hill got the win on the mound.
