Montague picked up a doubleheader sweep of rival Whitehall in West Michigan Conference baseball action Tuesday night. The Wildcats won by scores of 12-1 and 5-0.

Kade Johnson tossed a no-hitter in Game 1, allowing one unearned run with nine strikeouts over five innings. Johnson and Nick Moss led at the plate with three hits each, while Colton Blankstrom had two hits.

Owen Petersen and Blankstrom combined to allow just one hit in seven innings. Petersen started, allowing one hit in four innings with three strikeouts. Blankstrom allowed no hits in three innings and struck out four.

Tugg Nichols led the offense with two hits including a home run, while Hayden McDonald and Owen Fairchild with a hit and RBI each.

The Wildcats improved to 13-7 overall with the win, including 10-0 in conference play. 

Trojans pick up conference win

Fruitport earned an OK Blue Conference win Tuesday night, topping Holland Christian 8-4. 

Cody Matuz started the game, going five innings, allowing six hits while striking out 11. Matuz helped his cause at the plate with a home run, while Gavin Reames and Ryan Bosch picked up a pair of hits each. 

The second game of the doubleheader was suspended due to darkness and will be finished Thursday. Fruitport leads 9-0 in that game.

WMC tops MCC

Western Michigan Christian picked up a Lakes 8 Activities Conference win over Muskegon Catholic Central, 11-4, on Tuesday.

Sam Sipe earned the victory on the mound, throwing a complete game. He allowed four runs on five hits while striking out five hitters. Caleb McKay and Ethan Hill led the attack at the plate with three hits each. Sipe helped his cause with a pair of hits and three RBIs, while Sam Liggett added two hits.

The Crusaders were led by Dewey Modaff and Braden Gustin with a hit and an RBI each. 

With the win, the Warriors improve to 11-5 overall, and 8-1 in conference. 

Reeths-Puffer splits with Holland

The Rockets won their first game against Holland on Tuesday, but dropped the second game to come away with a split. Reeths-Puffer won the first game 9-5 before falling 4-3 in Game 2.

Brody Panozzo and Kaden Edwards led the attack at the plate in Game 1 with a pair of hits each. Kyle Schlaff, Alex Johnson, and Trent Reichert picked up a hit each. 

In Game 2, Edwards paced the offense again with a pair of hits, while Panozzo, Schlaff and Coby Mitchelson recorded a hit a piece.

Offense leads Kent City to sweep

Kent City’s offense smacked 10 hits in each game of a CSAA Silver double header sweep of Hesperia on Tuesday night. The Eagles won by a score of 11-1 and 5-4. 

Kyler Larson started Game 1 on the mound turning in five innings pitched, allowing no runs and no hits while striking out 14. Tyler Brummel led the attack with three hits, while Web Longcore finished the contest with a pair of hits. 

In Game 2, Atwood started on the mound, allowing no earned runs on two hits with three strikeouts in 3 ⅔ innings. Larson and Ryan Darling recorded three hits apiece. 

With the wins, the Eagles improve to 11-4 overall and 10-2 in conference play.

North Muskegon Sweeps Oakridge 13-8, 9-1

The Norse emerge victorious in a West Michigan Conference doubleheader on Tuesday night. Game 2 was called early due to darkness. 

Denny Belmonte, Troy McManus, and Sam Gallo led the attack at the plate for the Norse in Game 1, combining for 10 hits between the three. Matt Colbert grabbed a pair of hits in the contest as well. 

The Eagles were led by Corey Vanderputte with a home run, while Evan Miller recorded three hits. 

In Game 2, Colbert and Gallo led the Norse offense picking up a pair of RBIs each. Seven Norsemen finished the contest with at least one hit. 

Ryan Cribbins picked up a hit in Game 2 for the Eagles.
