Baseball roundup: Montague tops Sparta, Mona Shores sets school records in 31-0 win

The Montague baseball team picked up a non-conference win over Sparta Thursday night, topping the Spartans 15-9. Montague scored seven runs in the first inning en route to the win.

Aidan Buchberger earned the win on the mound, throwing 5 ⅓ innings. He allowed two earned runs on seven hits with three strikeouts.

Tugg Nichols led the attack at the plate collecting three hits and drove in two runs. Nick Moss had a triple and three RBI, while Colton Blankstrom had a double and scored three times.

With the win, the Wildcats improve to 14-7 overall.

Mona Shores sets two school records in win over Muskegon

The Mona Shores baseball team set team records with 23 hits and 31 runs in a 31-0 win over Muskegon on Thursday night. 

Jaxon Huffman and Mark Konecy went yard for the Sailors, both launching three-run homers. Konecny, Luke Opfermann and Javanni Johnson recorded three hits each. Six other Sailors recorded two hits. 

Huffman got the win on the mound, his seventh of the season.

With the victory, the Sailors improve to 22-3 overall, and 14-1 in OK Green conference play. 

Rockets pick up conference win over Holland

Reeths-Puffer finished a three-game set against Holland with a 5-2 win Thursday night. Kaden Edwards led the way with three hits and three RBI.

Jaxson Whitaker picked up the win on the mound, allowing two hits in four innings. Trent Reichert and Alex Orchard combined to throw three innings in relief. 

Kyle Schlaff picked up a pair of hits in the contest, while Orchard, Brody Panozzo and Alex Johnson each had a hit. 

Fruitport Sweeps Holland Christian

The Trojans earned an OK Blue Conference sweep on Thursday night, beating the Maroons 10-5 and 10-0. 

Game 1 was a continuation of a game started Tuesday evening. Cody Matuz led the charge at the plate with three hits. Brady French chipped with two hits and four RBIs, while Braxton Ward and Andrew Spyke grabbed a pair of hits each. 

In Game 2, Gavin Reames got the start on the bump, turning in five innings of work. Reames allowed no runs on three hits with seven strikeouts. Matuz and Aidan Vela led the offense with two hits each.

Whitehall, Fremont split doubleheader

The Packers took the opener 5-1 before the Vikings rebounded to win the nightcap 8-5.

Isaac VanAmberg started Game 1 on the mound for Whitehall, allowing three earned runs with five strikeouts in five innings of work. Evan Ritchie led the offense with two hits in the contest, while Landon Howe, Noah Mienert and Brendan Schmehil recorde a hit each. 

In Game 2, Jaden Brinkert earned the win on the mound, twirling six innings pitched. He allowed two earned runs on six hits while striking out five. Ritchie led the charge with four hits in the contest, while Howe finished the night cap with three hits.

Western Michigan Christian sweeps Muskegon Catholic Central

The Warriors walked off the Crusaders 6-5 in the opener before taking the nightcap 11-4.

Sam Sipe drove in the game winning run with a walk-off bunt single, finishing with two hits in the contest. Sam Liggett started on the mound, turning in six innings of work allowing four runs on eight hits. 

In Game 2, Alex Wagonmaker earned the win on the mound, throwing a complete game, allowing four runs on seven hits. Sipe led the attack at the plate with two hits and two RBIs. Liggett picked up a pair of hits, while Jamie Cho drove in three runs.
