The Montague baseball team won a back-and-forth affair with Muskegon Catholic Central in extra innings Thursday. The Wildcats claimed a 10-7 win in eight innings.

Montague took an early 5-0 lead before MCC scored seven unanswered runs to lead 7-5 after five innings. The Wildcats tied the game in the sixth before scoring three times in the top of the eighth to claim the win.

Tate Stine led the offense with a double and three RBIs, including the game-tying hit in the sixth. Colton Blankstrom added two hits and two RBIs while Nick Moss added two hits and one RBI. Kade Johnson and Aidan Buchberger each added a hit and drove in one, with Johnson driving home the go-ahead run in the eighth. 

Johnson started the game and pitched three innings. He gave up three unearned runs on two hits and struck out five. Moss earned the win in relief, pitching five innings. He allowed four unearned runs on five hits while striking out five.  

Montague’s record is now 19-13.

WMC takes care of Kelloggsville 

The Warriors wanted to send their fans home with a victory in their final home game of the season defeating Kelloggsville 10-0 in five innings. 

Western Michigan Christian scored early and often in a 10-0 win over Kelloggsville in five innings. They scored four runs in the first inning, three in the third and three more in the fourth.

The Warriors collected ten hits on the game while they limited Kelloggsville to just two. 

Senior Sam Liggett led the attack with three hits, including a two-run home run. Sam Sipe added two hits and two RBI and Alex Wagonmaker drove in two.

Wagonmaker pitched 3 ⅓ innings, giving up one hit while adding two strikeouts, to earn the win.. Liggett added 1 ⅔  innings of relief allowing one hit and striking out four.

Western Michigan Christian is now 16-6 on the season, including 11-1 in the Lakes 8. 

Mona Shores completes season sweep of Wyoming

Jaxon Huffman’s big day at the plate powered Mona Shores in a 10-0 win over Wyoming. Huffman connected on a pair of three-run home runs, totaling six runs driven in. 

Bryson Belanger added three hits for the Sailors, while Aaron Piasecki and Jason Anderson had two each. Brady Recknagel had a two-run double.

Javanni Johnson picked up the win on the mound, striking out seven and allowing four hits. 

The Sailors are now 29-4 overall and finish 20-1 in conference play as champions of the OK Green.

Mona Shores will host Spring Lake next Tuesday for a single game before districts.

Reeths-Puffer captures win on senior night

The Rockets closed out their conference slate with a 9-1 win over Grand Rapids Union.

Kaden Edwards led the way for Reeths-Puffer with three hits on the night, including a triple and two doubles. Jett Boersema added a triple as the Rockets totaled 11 hits.

Brody Panozzo pitched the complete game striking out nine while allowing five hits and one earned run. 

The Rockets are now 24-7 overall and finish with a 14-4 conference record, which is good for second in the OK Green.

Reeths-Puffer plays next Friday at Marsh Field against Oakridge at 7 pm.

Muskegon falls to Zeeland East

Muskegon dropped an OK Green conference game Thursday, falling 10-0 to Zeeland East.

The Big Reds were led on offense by Jayvon Carter who went 1-for-2 in the game. Damarion Ortiz took the loss for Muskegon pitching four innings, allowing ten runs on nine hits.

Fruitport falls to Unity Christian

The Trojans lost an OK Blue contest against Unity Christian 7-5 Thursday afternoon.

Fruitport’s leading hitters were Ryan Bosch and Brady French with two hits each. Cody Matuz had two RBIs. Bosch started on the mound for Fruitport as well.

The Trojans are now 16-12 on the season.
