The Montague baseball team secured a conference title and a perfect league record with a sweep of Shelby Tuesday night. Montague won by scores of 7-1 and 4-0, capping a 14-0 record in the West Michigan Conference.

Owen Petersen earned the win in the opener, a complete game with 12 strikeouts. He allowed just three hits and two walks. 

Aidan Buchberger led the way with three hits, including a triple. Colton Blankstrom had two hits and two RBI for the Wildcats, while Hayden McDonald had two hits.

Nick Moss to the win in Game 2, allowing two hits and two walks in seven shutout innings. Moss punched out 13 batters. Petersen had two hits and an RBI. Buchberger, Blankstrom and Michael Moore each had an extra base hit. 

Montague is 18-9 overall this season.

Norse, Vikings split WMC twin bill

The North Muskegon and Whitehall baseball teams split their doubleheader Tuesday night, with North Muskegon winning the first game 9-5 and Whitehall winning the second 4-2.

Leading the bats for the Norsemen in game one were Troy McManus and Ryan Delora, who both scored two hits and two RBIs. Sam Gallo also had 2 RBIs and one hit. 

For the Vikings, Noah Meinert led the team with a double and three RBIs. 

Scoring the win on the mound for the Norsemen was James Young, who posted five strikeouts in the win.

Bats cooled down for both teams in game two, with Whitehall being led by Ryne Christensen, who posted a triple and two RBIs. Landon Howe, Evan Ritchie and Jack McDowell all also tacked on hits for the Vikings. McManus led the Norsemen with a hit and an RBI. 

Kyle Stratton, who had seven strikeouts, got the win on the mound for the Vikings.

Reeths-Puffer scores 31 in sweep of Muskegon

The Rockets swept an OK Green doubleheader against Muskegon, winning by scores of 16-0 and 15-0.

Caiden Theisen earned the win in Game 1, while Kyle Schlaff got the win in Game 2. 

Reeths-Puffer will look to continue their hot steak as they travel to play North Muskegon on Wednesday for more doubleheader action.

Shores takes two from Holland

The Mona Shores baseball team secured the road sweep against OK Green rival Holland Tuesday night, winning the games 7-5 and 14-2.

Mason Brunworth led the Sailors’ bats in Game 1, notching two hits and a game-winning two- run single. Jason Anderson and Javanni Johnson also had two hits and two RBIs. Scoring the win on the mound was Bryson Belanger, who came in in relief and retired all six batters he faced.

Mona Shores caught fire at the plate in Game 2, as Aaron Piasecki posted four hits, an RBI and two bases stolen, while Diego Pena had three hits and two RBIs of his own. Jaxon Huffman, Mark Konecny, Isaac Habetler, and Brady Recknagel each had two hits a piece. 

Johnson pitched a complete game for the Sailors, winning on the mound with a season high 11 strikeouts.

Mona Shores improves to 25-4 overall, and 16-1 in the OK Green.

MCC sweeps Orchard View

The Muskegon Catholic Central baseball team took down Orchard View in Lakes 8 doubleheader action Tuesday night, winning 12-1 and 6-1.

Bryan Convertini had three hits including two doubles to lead the Crusaders, with Sam Convertini having two doubles and four RBIs in Game 1. Sam Convertini also led the Crusaders on the mound, allowing only one hit in four innings and striking out seven.

In Game 2, Bryan Convertini and Vince Szymanski both led the Crusaders with three hits, while Sam Covertini had two doubles. Getting the win on the mound was Owen Lyonnais, who pitched  the complete game and struck out six.

Muskegon Catholic Central improves to 10-10 on the season.

Grand Haven falls to Hudsonville

The Grand Haven baseball team dropped both games of an OK Red doubleheader Tuesday night to Hudsonville, losing 6-4 and 2-1.

Getting hits in game one for the Buccaneers were Jared Tithof, Braden Rademaker, Dayton Deal, Evan DuVall and Xavier Rodriguez, with Rodriguez getting a team-high two hits and two RBIs. Pitcher Nick Wilson struck out three for the Bucs.

Tithof and Deal both had two hits in the second game. Tithof took the loss, striking out four.

Kent City splits with White Cloud

Kent City’s baseball team split their doubleheader with White Cloud in CSAA-Silver action Tuesday night, dropping game one 16-13 and taking game two 9-6.

Bats were hot in game one for Kent City despite the loss, as Justin Mack, Tyler Brummel, Kyler Larson and Ryan Darling all notched two hits and two RBIs for the Eagles. Larson took the loss on the mound.

In Game 2 the bats stayed hot for the Eagles, as Darling recorded three hits and three RBIs, Webb Longcore recorded two hits and three RBIs and both Josh Anderson and Zane Kik recorded two hits. Getting the win on the mound was Ryan McCuaig, who had four strikeouts in the victory.

Fruitport swept by Allendale

The Trojans dropped both games of an OK Blue doubleheader Tuesday, losing 4-3 and 8-3.

Cody Matuz had a homerun for Fruitport in Game 1, in addition to striking out 11 on the mound. Also contributing for the Trojans was Gavin Reames with two hits.

Andrew Spyke had two hits for the Trojans in Game 2.
