Tuesday softball roundup: Ravenna launches five homers in doubleheader sweep of North Muskegon

Ravenna continued its perfect start to the softball season with a doubleheader sweep of North Muskegon on Tuesday. The Bulldogs launched five home runs on the day and won by scores of 16-0 and 13-3.

Emma Gillard pitched both games, allowing just one hit with five strikeouts in the opener and three runs on two hits with 10 punchouts in Game 2.

Emma Herremans led the offense in Game 1 with a 4-for-4 performance including a homer and a double. Maddie Kilbourne also had four hits, including a double, while Addie Gillard had three.

Liberty Willick, Emma Gillard and Amelia Porter each hit a home run in the opener.

Emma Gillad launched another homer in Game 2 as part of a 2-for-3 game. Herremans and Kilbourne each added two more hits as well.

The Bulldogs are now 8-0 on the season, including 4-0 in West Michigan Conference play.

Muskegon takes both games in O-K Green doubleheader against Grand Rapids Union

Muskegon took the first game 16-0, defeating the Red Hawks in just three innings.

Lauren Belka took the win from the circle, allowing zero runs and striking out five batters.

Layla Harris led the Bigs Reds with six RBIs. Paige Nash totaled three hits, followed by Ameenah Payne with two. Belka had two hits and two RBIs, and Braiden Atherton added two RBIs of her own.

Union took an early 3-0 lead in the first inning of Game 2, but Muskegon turned the game around to take a 16-3 win.

Nash allowed one hit and three runs and struck out two batters in one inning. Belka took the win, allowing zero runs on two hits and striking out eight batters in four innings.

Nash led the Big Reds with three hits, including a home run, and had four RBIs. Atherton totaled three hits as well, followed by Belka, Harris and Payne with two each. Harris and Brielle Dean each had two RBIs.

Kent City totals 42 runs in doubleheader win

The Eagle bats were rolling in a conference doubleheader win over Morley Stanwood on Tuesday. Kent City won by scores of 22-9 and 20-0.

Jacee Hoffman pitched five innings and struck out seven in the opener. Kaila Krueger led the offense with a pair of hits and five RBIs. Jade Mortensen had two hits and Abbigal Pecynski had two RBIs.

Hoffman was in the circle again for Game 2 and struck out five hitters. She also smacked three hits and drove in six runs at the plate. Mortensen added three hits and three RBIs in the second game.

Grand Haven takes two from Grandville in OK Red action

The Buccaneers won by scores of 6-1 and 9-2 in a doubleheader sweep of conference foe Grandville.

Regan Riemersma pitched the opener, allowing just three hits in seven innings while striking out 12 Bulldogs.

Skylar Covelli, Michayla Chciuk, Sami Franz and Savannah Collins each had two hits in Game 1. Collins drove in two runs, while Franz had one RBI.

Hannah Aldred threw a complete game in the nightcap, allowing three hits with six strikeouts. Riemersma had two hits, including a home run, and two RBIs. Emily Walcott collected two hits and Covelli drove in a pair of runs.

Jenison downs Hudsonville 1-0

The Eagles fell in an OK Red pitcher’s duel Tuesday. The Wildcats scored the game’s lone run in the sixth inning.

Hudsonville’s Sydney Bosgraaf allowed only two hits and struck out 11 batters. Annika Talsma led the Eagles with two hits.

Alli Wright pitched the win for Jenison, allowing four hits and striking out 14 batters.
