The Montague baseball team got in the win column on Thursday with a pair of wins over Hart in West Michigan Conference action.
Montague took control of the first game in the third inning, scoring six runs to lengthen their lead to 10-1. The Pirates could not make a comeback, and the Wildcats prevailed 15-5.
Nick Moss pitched the win, scattering two hits and three strikeouts. Reliever Colton Blankstrom allowed two hits and struck out one batter.
Blankstrom led the Wildcats with two hits, including a home run as well as four RBIs. AidenBuchberger and Michael Moore each had two RBIs.
Kory Charron and Carter Ramseyer each had one hit and two RBIs for Hart.
In Game 2, the Pirates held a 2-0 lead in the second inning, but the Wildcats took control with six runs in the third. Montague scored seven more runs in the next two innings to win 13-2.\
Moss took the win from the mound in Game 2, as well, allowing one hit and one run and striking out two. Owen Peterson allowed two hits and one run and struck out two batters in relief.
Tate Stine totaled two hits and two RBIs to lead the Wildcats at the plate while Buchberger and Kade Johnson each landed two hits.
Ty Schlukebir hit a two-run double for Hart. Blake Weirich and Ramseyer each had one hit.
Montague improves to 2-3 for the season, with a 2-0 record in conference play. The Pirates are now 2-2 overall.
Johnson’s three-run double pushes Reeths-Puffer past Wyoming
Alex Johnson hit a bases-loaded double in the seventh inning to give the Reeths-Puffer baseball team the breathing room it needed to beat Wyoming 8-6.
The Rockets built a 5-0 lead before Wyoming scored four runs in the sixth inning to make the game close.
Jaxson Whitaker pitched a great game for R-P, tossing five shutout innings while striking out 12.
Mona Shores completes a three-game sweep over Grand Rapids Union
The Sailors defeated the Red Hawks 10-0, led by Diego Pena with two hits and three RBIs. Aaron Piasecki and Jason Anderson each totaled two hits and two RBIs.
Anderson pitched the win with a no-hitter, striking out seven batters in five innings.
Mona Shores improved to 5-0 overall and 3-0 in the O-K Green conference. The Sailors will host a doubleheader against Grand Haven on Saturday.
Spring Lake downs Holland Christian 5-2
The Lakers swept a three-game season series from Holland Christian with the win.
The game was tied 2-2 when Spring Lake took the lead for good in the sixth inning.
Zane Stahl started on the mound for Spring Lake and allowed no runs or hits while striking out three. Reliever Kreegan Deverney got the win, scattering two hits over 3 2/3 innings.
Spring Lake had six hits, led by Stahl and Jackson Core with three apiece.
North Muskegon gets strong pitching in a sweep over Shelby
The Norse won both ends of the West Michigan Conference doubleheader, 14-2 and 11-0.
Carsen Moat pitched the win in the opener, giving up only two hits with 11 strikeouts. Sam Gallo had two hits for the Norse and knocked in a run. Troy McManus had a two-run hit and James Young knocked in three runs.
Ryan DeLora pitched the win in Game 2, scattering three hits while striking out nine. Gallo and Ben Meyers each had three hits while McManus and Denny Belmonte each had two RBIs.
Hudsonville remains undefeated with a 1-0 win over West Ottawa
Hudsonville’s Sam Schafer tossed a no-hitter with 10 strikeouts. The lone Eagle run came in the fourt inning on a Jackson Visser double and RBI single by Dakota Visser.
The win moved the Eagles’ record to 3-0.
Fruitport takes two from Coopersville in O-K Blue doubleheader
The Trojans took the opener 9-3. Mayson Whitlow pitched seven innings, striking out 13 and allowing only two hits. Gavin Reames and Cody Matuz each had two hits and Ryan Bosch knocked in two runs.
Fruitport completed the sweep with a 7-1 victory in Game 2. Reames pitched the win, tossing a complete-game shutout while scattering four hits and striking out 11. Reames had three hits while Matuz had two hits and knocked in three runs. Mayson Whitlow had two RBIs.
Hesperia drops a CSAA doubleheader to White Cloud
White Cloud took the win in Game 1, outscoring the Panthers 8-5.
Hesperia’s Hunter Billman had two hits and two RBIs, with Travis Kurtz landing two hits as well. Kohen Heckman pitched four innings for the Panthers, striking out five and allowing zero runs.
White Cloud led 6-4 after five innings of the nightcap when the game was ended by darkness.
Billman landed a two-run single for Hesperia while Heckman had one hit and one RBI.
Hesperia’s Armando Escobedo pitched for three innings, allowing three runs and striking out seven batters.
