The Whitehall boys basketball team outlasted Shelby on Tuesday night to claim the West Michigan Conference title outright. Having already clinched a share of the title, the Vikings beat Shelby 43-39 to ensure they had the championship all to themselves.
Whitehall held a slim 12-11 lead after one quarter and led 23-12 at halftime. Shelby used a 12-7 edge in the third to draw within 30-24 entering the final period.
The Tigers drew within two points in the fourth, but Whitehall hung on for the win.
Freshman Camden Thompson led the Vikings with a double-double of 23 points and 14 rebounds. Isaac DeHart chipped in six points.
Joseph Hayes led the way for Shelby with 16 points.
Whitehall finishes WMC play with an 11-3 record and is now 14-5 overall. Shelby moves to 12-7 overall, including 7-7 in league play.
