Thursday boys basketball roundup: Thompson scores 20 points as Whitehall downs Western Michigan Christian

A big second and third quarter gave the Whitehall boys basketball team the edge in a 56-45 victory over Western Michigan Christian on Thursday.

The Vikings led 14-12 after one quarter, then took control by outscoring the Warriors 17-3 in the second quarter and 18-11 in the third.

Camden Thompson led Whitehall with 20 points, Isaac Dehart added 12 points and Red Watson scored 10.

Owen Varnado paced WMC with 17 points, Jared Olsen scored 12 and Sam Liggett chipped in eight points.

RAVENNA 46, CHIPPEWA HILLS 21 – The Bulldogs dominated from the beginning, outscoring Chippewa Hills 11-4 in the first quarter and 12-3 in the second.

Kyle Beebe put up 16 points for Ravenna while Grant Becklin added nine points.

Ravenna finished the regular season with a 13-6 record.

GRANT 38, HOLTON 36 – Grant scored with 13 seconds remaining to gain the winning margin. The Red Devils set up a final three-point attempt, but the shot hit the rim and bounced away.

Holton led 10-3 after one quarter, 16-13 at halftime and 27-24 after three quarters, then the Tigers crept up and stole the victory in the fourth.

Kevin Erickson led Holton with 16 points and three steals, Carter Brant added 10 points and four rebounds, Austin Fowler had six points, six rebounds and six assists, and Chase Albright snagged eight boards.

Holton ended the regular season with a 14-6 record.

LUDINGTON 68, MASON COUNTY CENTRAL 40 – The Orioles gained the upper hand by outscoring the Spartans 16-5 in the first quarter and 17-8 in the second.

David Schillinger led Ludington with 16 points, Dylan Eaton added 15 and Matthew Westhouse had 10.

Will Chye and Jayden Perrone scored 12 and 10 points, respectively, for Mason County Central.

MESICK 76, PENTWATER 37 – Mesick set the tone for the game by outscoring the Falcons 23-12 in the first quarter and 17-5 in the second.

Mesick shot 50 percent from the floor, including 45 percent from three-point range. Pentwater shot 22 percent.

Tyler Plummer Eisenlohr led Pentwater with 17 points and Campbell Miller gragged seven rebounds. The Falcons ended the regular season with a 6-11 record. [2]
