The Muskegon Lumberjacks allowed four answered goals on Saturday night, resulting in a 5-2 loss to the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders in Iowa.

The Lumberjacks are now 25-15-6 on the season and are suddenly in third place in the USHL’s Eastern Conference.

Muskegon is now five points behind second place Dubuque and six points behind first place Chicago.

The Lumberjacks will return home for their next six games, starting on Friday and Saturday against Team USA. Both games are slated to start at 7:10 p.m. at the Mercy Health Arena.

Cedar Rapids opened the scoring with the lone goal of the first period at the 15:00 mark scored by Adam Flammang.

The Lumberjacks tied the game 1-1 early in the second period at the 1:39 mark with a goal from David Hymovitch.

The RoughRiders responded with three straight second period goals to take a 4-1 lead heading into the third period.

Joshua Karnish (7:48), Liam Lesakowski (11:25) and Joe Fleming (18:42) each found the back of the net for Cedar Rapids.

The RoughRiders added another goal to take a 5-1 lead at the 17:20 mark of the third period with a tally from Jake Percival.

Owen Mehlenbacher closed out the scoring for the Jacks 18:03 into the third.

The RoughRiders outshot Muskegon by a 28-16 margin as Muskegon’s goaltender Chase Clark suffered the loss in net, stopping 23-of-28 shots on net.
