Whitehall’s girls basketball team erased a 10-point deficit in the fourth quarter to force overtime, then edged Fremont in the extra session to pick up a non-conference win Tuesday night.
The Vikings trailed 40-34 heading to the fourth period and saw the deficit reach double-digits before storming back to tie the game at 52-52 to end regulation. Whitehall managed a narrow 4-2 edge in overtime to take home the win.
The game was tied 12-12 after the first quarter before Whitehall pulled out to a 31-26 halftime lead. Fremont controlled the third quarter, however, with a 14-3 advantage to take the lead.
Charley Klint led Whitehall in the comeback effort with 22 points and eight rebounds. Autumn Ferris added nine points and six rebounds and McKena Coron scored six.
Haley Zerlaut had a big game for Fremont, scoring 27 points and grabbing seven rebounds. Lily VandenBerg had eight points and seven rebounds, Khaila Noordyk had eight points and six rebounds and Jessica Bennett grabbed 10 boards for the Packers.
Whitehall is now 7-8 on the season and 5-4 in conference play. Fremont falls to 2-12 on the season.
