The Whitehall boys basketball team avenged an early season defeat to Ravenna Tuesday night to force a tie atop the West Michigan Conference standings.
After falling to the Bulldogs 66-42 in the opening week of the season, the Vikings returned the favor with a 55-41 win Tuesday night.
[1]The first half was a tightly-contested, low-scoring affair. Whitehall led 12-10 at the end of the first quarter, but Ravenna tied the game 17-17 heading into halftime.
Whitehall turned it up offensively after the break, outscoring Ravenna 19-12 in both the third and fourth quarters to pull away.
Camden Thompson had a big game for Whitehall, totaling 15 points and 13 rebounds. Jack Houtteman scored eight points for the Vikings, Nate Bolley had eight and Isaac DeHart chipped in seven.
[2]Kyle Beebe had a double-double of 12 points and 10 rebounds to lead Ravenna. Travis May scored eight points while Clay Schullo and Grant Becklin tossed in six each.
Whitehall and Ravenna are now, along with North Muskegon, part of a three-way tie for first place in the WMC with conference records of 6-2. Shelby is one game behind at 5-3. Each team has six league games remaining on the schedule. The Vikings and Bulldogs are both 7-4 overall this season.
