The Oakridge boys basketball team built an early lead against league-leading Whitehall, lost it, then won in overtime in an exciting West Michigan Conference game Friday night. In the end, the Eagles came away with a 62-60 win that needed an extra frame to be decided.
Oakridge led 18-8 after the opening quarter and extended the lead to 36-23 at halftime. Whitehall drew closer in the third, getting within 49-42. A 16-9 edge in the fourth quarter allowed the Vikings to tie the game at 58-58, sending it to overtime.
The Eagles came out on top with a 4-2 edge in overtime to hold on to the win.
Garrett Wever led the Eagles with 22 points, while Ethan Jozsa added 20. Hunter DeLora chipped in 10 points.
Camden Thompson led the way for Whitehall, scoring 25 points and grabbing 14 rebounds. Isaac DeHart scored 13 for Whitehall and Red Watson totalled 12 points, seven assists and six steals.
Whitehall falls to 11-5 on the season and 9-3 in the WMC. The Vikings remain in first place in the conference thanks to Ravenna’s loss to Mason County Central Friday night. Oakridge has won five straight games and is now 10-8 on the season and 6-6 in league play.
