Girls hoops roundup: Reeths-Puffer, Mona Shores both win to share OK Green Conference title

Reeths-Puffer captured a share of the OK Green conference girls basketball regular season title with a win over Grand Rapids Union Friday night. The Rockets used a strong third quarter to come away with a 56-49 win.

With the win, Reeths-Puffer finishes its conference schedule at 12-2, tied with Mona Shores for the conference championship.

Sophia Hekkema led the Rockets with a double-double of 21 points and 11 rebounds. Arriona Williams added 11 points and five steals, while Kylee Wanerus had nine points and six rebounds.

Reeths-Puffer ends the regular season at 14-5 overall.

OK CONFERENCE

MONA SHORES 65, WYOMING 32 — The Sailors took care of business to earn their share of the OK Green Conference championship.

Mona Shores led 18-12 after the first quarter before pulling out to a 35-17 lead at halftime. A huge 26-4 advantage in the third put the Sailors up 61-21 heading to the final quarter.

Khaleeya Cook led Mona Shores with 16 points, followed by Olivia Sobczak with 14, Lily Miller with 13 and Mia Brown with nine.

Mona Shores finishes the regular season 17-3, including 12-2 in the OK Green. The Sailors share the conference title with Reeths-Puffer.

ALLENDALE 60, FRUITPORT 24 — Hannah Schroeder scored 30 points to lead the Falcons in their regular season finale Friday night.

Allendale finishes the regular season at 12-8, including 8-6 in the OK Blue. Fruitport finishes the year at 1-19 and 1-13 in the conference.

GRAND RAPIDS WEST CATHOLIC 76, SPRING LAKE 29 — The Lakers ended the regular season with a tough loss against a powerful West Catholic team.

Spring Lake trailed 19-10 after one quarter, 43-19 at halftime and 65-24 after the third quarter. 

Mesh Bajt led Spring Lake with seven points, five rebounds and four assists. Jennifer Judge scored five points, while Emma Nicles and Alexa Carter had four each.

Spring Lake finishes the regular season at 12-8 overall and 8-6 in conference play. Grand Rapids West Catholic is now 19-1, including a perfect 14-0 in the OK Blue.

CSAA

FREMONT 44, REED CITY 34 — The Packers used a dominant first quarter to close the regular season with a win Friday night.

Fremont led 13-2 after the opening quarter and 24-12 at halftime. Reed City pulled within 31-21 after three quarters and within four in the fourth quarter before the Packers closed out the win.

Haley Zerlaut led the Packers with 17 points, five assists asd five steals. Kaitlynn Bennett added six points and five steals.

Fremont finishes the regular season 4-16 overall and 4-10 in CSAA Gold conference play.

HOLTON 42, HESPERIA 31 — The Red Devils allowed just six points in the first half on the way to the win. Holton led 7-4 at the end of the first quarter, 18-6 at halftime and 30-22 after three quarters.

Emmet Tinkham had a big game for Hesperia with 22 points and 12 rebounds. 

Holton finishes the regular season 13-7, including 6-4 in conference play. Hesperia falls to 2-15 to end the season.

LAKES 8

WESTERN MICHIGAN CHRISTIAN 59, MUSKEGON CATHOLIC CENTRAL 24 — The Warriors kept themselves in the running for a share of the conference title with a win Friday night.

WMC is now 14-4 on the season and 8-1 in conference play. It will play Manistee on Saturday with a chance to move to 9-1 and tie Ludington for a conference championship.

The Warriors led 16-5 after one quarter and 33-17 at halftime. THe score was 44-18 after three quarters.

Katherine Rauch scored 10 points to lead MCC. The Crusaders finish the regular season 8-11, including 4-6 in the Lakes 8.

NON-CONFERENCE

MASON COUNTY CENTRAL 61, FRUITPORT CALVARY CHRISTIAN 37 — The Spartans rode a 12-0 first quarter advantage to a non-conference win Friday. Mason County extended its lead to 25-8 at halftime and 40-16 after three quarters.

Wren Nelson scored 18 points and grabbed 15 points to lead MCC, while Grace Weinert scored 17.

Cate Anhalt had 14 points to lead the Eagles and McKena Wilson added 10.

The Spartans finish the regular season at 14-6, while Fruitport Calvary Central finishes at 13-6.
