The North Muskegon girls basketball team stunned Shelby 37-35 on Monday in the first round of Division 3 districts at Holton High School.
The Norse led 9-6 after one quarter and 22-10 at halftime. A dominant third quarter brought Shelby within two points, 27-25, entering the fourth.
The teams traded buckets down the stretch, but North Muskegon pulled out the win in the end.
Kendall Zoulek led Shelby with 21 points and five rebounds in her final varsity game.
North Muskegon did not report any player stats.
North Muskegon, now 5-17 on the season, advances to play Western Michigan Christian in the semifinals at Holton on Wednesday.
Shelby finished the season with an 11-11 record.
DIVISION 2
OAKRIDGE 52, FRUITPORT 20 – The Eagles led 10-7 after one quarter and 24-16 at halftime, then opened things up in the third, holding the Trojans to two points and taking a 37-18 advantage into the fourth.
Leading the Eagles was Anna Lundquist, who posted an impressive 23 points and eight rebounds on the night. Destyni Lane had 12 points and seven steals.
Oakridge, now 8-13, will host Montague in the district semifinals on Wednesday.
Fruitport finished the season with a 1-20 record.
WHITEHALL 64, ORCHARD VIEW 23 – Whitehall led 15-5 after one quarter, 31-12 at halftime and 54-15 entering the fourth.
Charley Klint led the Vikings with 23 points, eight rebounds and seven steals. Lola Buckner and Ashley TenBrink each added 10 points for Whitehall.
Whitehall, now 9-12, will face Spring Lake on Wednesday in the district semifinals at Oakridge High School.
FREMONT 51, COMSTOCK PARK 45 – Fremont led 9-6 after one quarter, 17-6 at halftime and 34-27 after three quarters.
The Packers were led by Haley Zerlaut, who posted 22 points on the night. Mia Witte contributed a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds.
Fremont, 5-16, will meet Newaygo on Wednesday night in the district semifinals.
DIVISION 3
HOLTON 48, HESPERIA 14 – The Red Devils only led 9-6 after one quarter, but then pulled ahead 18-6 after two and 27-8 headed into the fourth.
Ryann Robins led the Red Devils with a double-double, totaling 15 points and 13 boards. June Newell added seven points and Courtney Boes had 10 rebounds and four steals.
Holton, now 14-7, will host West Michigan Conference champion Hart on Wednesday in the semifinal round.
WHITE CLOUD 26, RAVENNA 17 – The Bulldogs could not get their offense going, failing to score in the first quarter and only having six points at halftime.
Emma Gillard led Ravenna with seven points. The Bulldogs finished the season with a 5-16 record.
DIVISION 4
WALKERVILLE 49, PENTWATER 37 – A bad third quarter doomed Pentwater and brought the Falcons’ season to a close.
Walkerville led 6-5 after one quarter and 17-13 at halftime, then took control with an 18-9 advantage in the third quarter.
Haidyn Adams had 16 points and Mikayln Kenney scored 12 for Pentwater, which finished the season with a 3-16 record.
