A huge 32-point, 18-rebound performance from freshman Camden Thompson powered Whitehall to a win over North Muskegon in a West Michigan Conference showdown Friday night.
The Vikings topped the Norse 69-61 to hold onto a share of first place in the WMC. Whitehall is now 7-2 in the conference, tied for first with Ravenna, while North Muskegon falls to second at 6-3.
Whitehall led 17-10 after the first quarter and held a narrow 30-29 lead at the half. The Vikings extended the lead to 47-38 to end the third.
In addition to Thompson’s monster game, Brodie Fogus had eight points for Whitehall and Red Watson scored seven.
The Vikings are 8-4 overall this season, while North Muskegon sits at 9-5.
RAVENNA 56, HART 32 — The Bulldogs dominated for most of the game to keep pace in the West Michigan Conference standings. Ravenna led 19-10 after one quarter before pulling ahead for a 40-19 halftime lead. The Bulldogs then shut Hart out in the third, winning the frame 10-0.
Kyle Beebe led Ravenna with 22 points, including four 3-pointers, and six rebounds. Grant Becklin added 13 points and nine rebounds and Carter Schullo scored 12.
Wyatt Dean led Hart with six points, while Parker Hovey and Diego Escamilla had five each.
The Bulldogs are now 8-4 overall and 7-2 in the WMC, which is tied with Whitehall for first place. Hart falls to 4-7 overall and 2-7 in conference play.
MONTAGUE 57, MASON COUNTY CENTRAL 44 — The Wildcats trailed by a point at halftime, but used a 34-20 edge in the second half to claim the win.
Mason County Central led 14-13 after one quarter and 24-23 at halftime. Montague then outscored the Spartans 17-7 in the third quarter and 17-13 in the fourth to come back for the win.
Isaiah Atchison led the Wildcats with 12 points. Tate Stine and Owen Raeth both scored 11 and Tugg Nichols and Colton Blankstrom tossed in seven apiece.
Montague is now 9-4 on the season and 5-4 in West Michigan Conference play, while MCC falls to 4-9 overall and 1-8 in the conference.
OAKRIDGE 59, SHELBY 48 — The Eagles used a strong second quarter advantage to pick up a conference win Friday night.
Oakridge led 11-7 after one quarter and extended that lead to 31-19 by halftime. The lead grew to 46-33 heading to the fourth.
Joseph Hayes led Shelby in the defeat, finishing with 26 points and 10 rebounds. Wyatt Dickman added 10 points and four assists for the Tigers.
Oakridge improves to 6-8 overall this season and 3-6 in the West Michigan Conference. Shelby is now 7-5 overall and 5-4 in conference play.
