Friday boys hoops roundup: Mona Shores gets comeback win over GR Union, Holton stays unbeaten in conference

Mona Shores overcame a halftime deficit to pick up a conference win against Grand Rapids Union Friday night. The Sailors trailed 22-15 at halftime, but rallied after the break to claim a 47-41 win.

Parker Swartz once again led Mona Shores, scoring 21 points and grabbing nine rebounds. Keonte Richards finished with 13 points. 

Mona Shores led 13-11 after the first quarter, but was outscored 11-2 in the second quarter. The Sailors used a 15-7 edge in the third to take a slim 30-29 lead into the final frame.

Mona Shores is now 7-7 on the season and 4-4 in OK Green Conference action.

OK CONFERENCE

GRAND HAVEN 59, HUDSONVILLE 46 — Nic Stump’s 24 points led the Bucs past Hudsonville in an OK Red Conference showdown on Friday night. Bashir Neely chipped in with 16 points for Grand Haven.

Brock Beemer led the Eagles with 12 points.

With the win, the Bucs improve to 12-1 overall and 7-1 in conference play. The Bucs are second in the conference to Rockford, trailing the Rams by one game.

SPRING LAKE 50, FRUITPORT 38 — The Lakers picked up a road win against rival Fruitport in an OK Blue game Friday night.

After an even first quarter left the score 10-10, Spring Lake took over with a 13-3 edge in the second quarter to lead 23-13 at the half. THe Lakers extended the lead to 41-24 after three quarters.

Kaden George led the Lakers with 25 points. Porter Saunders added 11 points and nine rebounds. Eli Morrison added five points and eight rebounds, while Jackson Core had five points, five rebounds, five assists and three steals.

Bode Anspach led the Trojans with eight points. Gavin Reames, Paschal Jolman, Collin Jolman, Ryan Laus and Andrew Spyke scored six each.

Spring Lake is now 6-6 overall and 4-4 in the OK Blue, while Fruitport is 5-8 overall and 1-7 in the conference.

HOLLAND CHRISTIAN 53, COOPERSVILLE 39 — The Broncos fell to Holland Christian in OK Blue Conference action on Friday night.

Coopersville trailed 12-8 after the first quarter and faced a 24-18 deficit at halftime. The Broncos pulled within 34-30 at the end of the third, but Holland Christian closed out the game with a 19-9 edge in the final period.

Isaiah Currie paced the Broncos with 14 points, while Travis Rosel finished the contest with 10 points. 

Coopersville is now 7-5 overall this season and 4-4 in conference play.

LAKES 8 ACTIVITIES CONFERENCE

MUSKEGON CATHOLIC CENTRAL 62, ORCHARD VIEW 49 — The Crusaders defeated the Cardinals for their third straight Lakes 8 Conference victory on Friday night. 

Muskegon Catholic led 14-13 after one quarter, but Orchard View took a 27-25 lead into the half. MCC used a 16-10 third quarter edge to pull ahead 41-35 after three quarters and closed out the game with a 21-12 edge in the fourth.

Jaden Johnson and Dane Rutz paced the Crusaders with 14 points each. Braden Gustin recorded a double-double scoring 11 points and grabbing 12 rebounds, while Tramel Caviness finished with 10 points.

The Crusaders improve to 4-7 overall, and 3-4 in conference play. Orchard View is now 3-9 overall and 1-6 in the Lakes 8.

CSAA

HOLTON 48, WHITE CLOUD 30 — The Red Devils remain unbeaten in CSAA Silver play after a win over the Indians.

Holton held a slim 11-10 lead after one quarter of play and led 25-21 at halftime. A 10-2 run in the third quarter helped Holton pull away as they led 35-23 heading to the fourth.

Wyatt Monette paced the Red Devils with a double-double of 12 points and 10 rebounds. Carter Brant finished with 12 points as well, while Kevin Erickson chipped in with nine points. 

With the victory, the Red Devils improve to 10-2 overall, and 6-0 in conference play. 

FREMONT 60, CENTRAL MONTCALM 54 — Jordan McDonald scored 31 points to lead the Packers over the Hornets in a CSAA Gold Conference matchup on Friday night.

Fremont jumped out to a 23-17 lead after one quarter and led 41-36 at halftime. The Packers were outscored 10-7 in the third quarter, but still held a 48-46 lead heading into the fourth quarter. 

Joey DeLong finished the contest with 12 points for the Packers.

With the win, the Packers improve to 10-5 overall, including 8-1 in conference play.

LAKEVIEW 44, HESPERIA 35 — Maddox Mosley’s 18 points were not enough as the Panthers fell to the Wildcats in CSAA Silver conference play. 

The Panthers fell behind 12-10 after one quarter of play and trailed 27-15 at halftime. The Wildcats extended the lead to 36-20 at the start of the fourth quarter. 

The Panthers are now 1-11 overall, and 0-7 in conference play.

WEST MICHIGAN D LEAGUE

WALKERVILLE 58, PENTWATER 43 — The Falcons dropped a West Michigan D League matchup Friday night.

Pentwater trailed 14-9 after one quarter, 21-13 at halftime and 46-28 at the end of three quarters.

Tyler Lummer-Eisenlorh had a big game with 24 points and nine rebounds to lead Pentwater. Drew Kolenda added 10 points and six rebounds for the Falcons. 

The Falcons are now 2-8 overall, and 2-7 in conference play.
