Reeths-Puffer’s boys basketball team picked up its fourth straight win with a league victory of Holland Friday night. The Rockets used a strong first half to pick up a 52-43 win at home.

Reeths-Puffer had a slim 11-8 edge after the first quarter and extended the lead to 31-21 at halftime. The Rockets led 39-28 heading to the fourth.

Jaxson Whitaker led the way offensively with 19 points and grabbed five rebounds. Travis Ambrose had a double-double of 14 points and 11 rebounds, along with four blocks. Logan Brooks tossed in eight points for R-P.

With the win, Reeths-Puffer is now 12-5 overall this season and 9-5 in OK Green play, which is good for second in the conference. 

OK CONFERENCE

HUDSONVILLE 51, GRANDVILLE 44 — The Eagles took care of Grandville in OK Red conference action on Friday night. 

Hudsonville jumped out to a 14-8 lead after the first quarter, but relinquished the lead in the second quarter and trailed 22-21 at halftime. The Eagles took control in the third quarter, outscoring their opponents 17-12 and taking a 38-34 lead into the fourth quarter. 

Brayden Szamrej paced the Eagles with 16 points, while Eli VanderVeen had 11 points and seven rebounds.

GRAND RAPIDS WEST CATHOLIC 46, COOPERSVILLE 45 — The Broncos lose a heart-breaker as West Catholic won the game on a buzzer-beating three in OK Blue conference action on Friday night. 

The Broncos fell behind 11-5 after one quarter of play, and trailed 21-19 at halftime. Both teams scored 12 points in the third quarter, making the score 33-31 at the start of the fourth quarter.

Coopersville pulled ahead by two late in the game, but West Catholic’s Noah Arsoluwicz hit a long three at the buzzer to claim the win.

Travis Rosel paced the Broncos with 19 points, while Isaiah Currie chipped in with 13 points. 

FRUITPORT 73, HAMILTON 55 — The Trojans pulled away in the fourth quarter to claim an OK Blue conference win Friday night.

Fruitport led 15-11 after the first quarter, 34-26 at halftime and 49-43 heading to the fourth. The Hawkeyes pulled within three points early in the fourth, but Fruitport regrouped and pulled away.

Paschal Jolman led the Trojans with 21 points. Bode Anspach added 19 points, Andrew Spyke scored 14 and Gavin Reames tossed in 10.

Fruitport is now 6-11 on the season and 2-10 in conference play.

WEST MICHIGAN CONFERENCE

MONTAGUE 61, SHELBY 54 — Isaiah Atchison scored 18 points, blocked 10 shots and grabbed seven rebounds to lead the Wildcats to the conference win.

Montague led 21-12 after the first quarter, 30-25 at halftime and 44-38 heading to the fourth quarter. 

Tate Stine had 11 points and eight assists for Montague, while Owen Raeth scored nine points. Joseph Hayes led Shelby with 31 points.

Montague is now 11-5 on the season, while Shelby drops to 10-6. Both teams are 7-5 in the West Michigan Conference.

LAKES 8 ACTIVITIES CONFERENCE

LUDINGTON 47, MUSKEGON CATHOLIC CENTRAL 38 — Despite being down three key players due to injury and illness, the Orioles claimed a Lakes 8 win Friday night.

The win moves Ludington to 9-0 in conference play, ensuring them sole possession of the conference championship with one game remaining.

The Crusaders pulled out to an early 11-5 lead after one quarter and held a 21-19 edge at halftime. Ludington used a 14-7 advantage in the third quarter to pull ahead 33-28 heading to the final quarter.

Dylan Eaton led the Orioles with 12 points, while Levi Laman and Kol Anthes had 11 each. Anthes scored all 11 of his points in the second half.

Jaden Johnson led MCC with 20 points.

The Orioles are now 10-6 overall, including their perfect league record. Muskegon Catholic Central is 4-11 overall and 3-6 in the conference.

MUSKEGON HEIGHTS 72, MANISTEE 36 — The Tigers picked up their 10th win of the season with a Lakes 8 conference win Friday night. 

Jakari Edwards scored 21 points to lead the way, while Jonathan Moore and Damond Davis chipped in 14 each.

Muskegon Heights is now 10-5 on the season, including 7-2 in league play.

WESTERN MICHIGAN CHRISTIAN 63, ORCHARD VIEW 57 — A strong first quarter proved to be the difference for WMC in a Lakes 8 conference win Friday night.

The Warriors got off to a 21-14 lead after the opening quarter and never looked back. WMC led 35-26 at halftime and 48-42 at the end of the third quarter. 

Sam Liggett scored 21 points and grabbed six rebounds to lead WMC, while Owen Varnado had 18 points and eight rebounds.

The Warriors are now 5-10 overall this season including 5-3 in the Lakes 8. Orchard View falls to 3-12 overall and 1-8 in conference play.

WEST MICHIGAN D LEAGUE

PENTWATER 71, BIG RAPIDS CCA 28 — The Falcons dominated throughout to pick up a conference win. Pentwater led 36-16 at halftime and extended the lead with a 35-12 edge in the second half.

Tyler Plummer-Eisenlohr led the Falcons with 20 points and six rebounds. Will Werkeme-Grondsma added a double-double of 14 points and 10 rebounds, while Jonny Arnouts totaled 12 points, four rebounds and four steals.
