West Michigan Conference girls hoops roundup: Shelby, Hart, Montague, Mason County pick up wins

Shelby held off Whitehall in a hard-fought West Michigan Conference girls basketball battle Friday night. The Tigers edged the Vikings 50-47 to take home the win.

Kendall Zoulek led Shelby with a double-double of 18 points and 12 rebounds. She added five assists as well.

Shelby held a 17-14 advantage after the first quarter and led 29-25 at halftime. The teams played an even third quarter, leaving the score at 37-33 heading to the final frame.
Whitehall had a slight 14-13 edge in the fourth, but couldn’t come all the way back.

Molli Schultz scored 11 points for Shelby, while Ella Olmstead had eight points and eight rebounds.

Charley Klint scored a game-high 24 points to lead the Vikings.

Shelby is now 6-4 overall this season and 3-2 in the WMC. Whitehall falls to 3-7 overall and 2-4 in the conference.

HART 56, OAKRIDGE 30 — Addi Hovey led the Pirates with 16 points, seven rebounds, and five steals. Aspen Boutell added 12 points and five rebounds, and Mariana VanAgtmael totaled 11 points and five steals.

Hart led 19-7 after the first quarter, ended the half leading 26-17, and closed the third quarter with a 49-21 lead.

Destyni Lane led the Eagles with 13 points, followed by Kaelinn Jozsa with six points and 10 rebounds and Anna Lundquist with five points, four steals, and 10 rebounds.

The Pirates improve to 7-1 for the season and a perfect 6-0 in the West Michigan Conference, while Oakridge falls to 2-6 overall and 1-4 in conference play.

MONTAGUE 37, RAVENNA 14 — The Wildcats cruised to a conference win on the strength of a dominant defensive performance. Montague led 13-2 after one quarter, 21-4 at halftime and 24-6 after three quarters.

Claire Meacham led the Wildcats with 12 points and three blocks, while Kendall Osborne added eight points, eight steals and four rebounds. Emma Gillard led the Bulldogs with eight points.

Montague is now 6-2 on the season and 5-1 in the West Michigan Conference. Ravenna is 2-5 overall and 1-3 in the WMC.

MASON COUNTY CENTRAL 58, NORTH MUSKEGON 22 — Wren Nelson led the Spartans with 15 points and nine rebounds. Adira Quigley scored 14 points and made four steals, while Ashlyn McKay added eight points.

Mason County Central led 13-5 in the first quarter, 29-16 at halftime, and 44-22 at the end of the third.

The Spartans are now 5-2 for the season, with a 4-2 record in the West Michigan Conference. North Muskegon falls to 1-7 overall and 0-6 in league play. [1] [2] [3]
