The Mason County Central girls basketball team used a strong fourth quarter to post a 41-35 victory over Whitehall on Tuesday in West Michigan Conference action.
The first quarter ended with an 8-8 tie. Mason County Central took a 19-12 lead going into halftime, but the Vikings ended the third quarter with a 27-26 lead.
Mason County Central took the win with a 15-8 advantage in the fourth quarter.
Wren Nelson led the Spartans with a double-double, with 24 points and10 rebounds, along with five blocks. Charlie Banks added seven points and Grace Weinert scored six points and totaled eight assists.
Autumn Ferris led the Whitehall girls with nine points and seven rebounds and Marissa Strandberg added six points.
Mason County Central is now 4-2 overall with a 3-2 record in the West Michigan Conference. Whitehall fell to 3-6 overall with a 2-3 conference mark.
O-K RED
WEST OTTAWA 37, GRAND HAVEN 32 – Caydee Constant led the Buccaneers with 11 points and two steals, followed by Zoe Spoelman with eight rebounds, Molly Long with three assists and two blocks, and Abbey Klumpel with two steals.
West Ottawa led 8-6 after the first quarter and 15-10 going into the second half. Grand Haven tied the game 22-22 at the end of the third before the Panthers pulled out the win,
Gabby Reynolds led the Panthers with 16 points, followed by Molly Borksi with 14
The Buccaneers are now 4-3 overall with an 0-2 record in the O-K Red conference. West Ottawa is now 7-0 for the season and 1-0 in conference play.
O-K GREEN
REETHS-PUFFER 67, ZEELAND EAST 25– The Rockets jumped out to a 24-7 lead after the first quarter, led 41-13 at halftime and had a 60-21 advantage heading into the fourth.
Arrionna Williams led Reeths-Puffer with 19 points, while Sophia Hekkema added 15 points and eight rebounds. Ariel Walker chipped in with 14 points.
MONA SHORES 51, ZEELAND WEST 17 – Olivia Sobczak led the Sailors with 13 points, followed by Ali Phillips with eight and Lauren Hylland with six.
Mona Shores led 8-7 after the first quarter, 23-11 at halftime, and 36-14 going into the fourth.
The Sailors are now 7-1 overall, with a 2-0 record in conference play.
CSAA
GRANT 67, FREMONT 48 – Grant’s Jaycee Rider and Julie Ashbaugh dominated the court with 20 points apiece on Tuesday night. Rider scored six of Grant’s nine three-pointers.
The Tigers led 20-11 after the first quarter, 41-17 at halftime and 53-23 at the end of the third.
Haley Zerlaut led Fremont with 18 points, followed by Jessica Bennett and Lily VandenBerg with eight points apiece. Khalia Noordyk totaled 11 rebounds.
The Tigers are now 5-3 for the season and 5-2 in the CSAA Gold. Fremont fell to 1-7 with a CSAA Gold record of 1-3.
