Tuesday girls basketball roundup: Montague posts a decisive conference victory over Oakridge

The Montague girls basketball team came away with a 56-44 win over Oakridge on Tuesday in West Michigan Conference play.

The contest was tight throughout with the Eagles leading 10-9 after the first quarter, and the Wildcats holding a 23-22 advantage at halftime.

Oakridge had a 35-32 advantage through three quarters before the Wildcats closed out strong with a 24-9 run.

Emma Dyer led Montague with 11 points while Claire Meacham had a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds. Emma Peterson and Kendall Osborne each chipped in with eight points apiece.

The Eagles were paced by Destyni Lane with 13 points and six steals, while Anna Lundquist and Jasmine Pastor both scored 10 points.

Lundquist also pulled down nine rebounds.

WEST MICHIGAN CONFERENCE

WHITEHALL 41, RAVENNA 29 – Whitehall started out hot, jumping out to a 13-4 lead after one quarter and remained on top 23-15 at halftime.

The Vikings led 32-20 heading into the fourth quarter.

Charley Klint led the Vikings with 19 points while also grabbing six boards on the night. Lolo Buckner and Onnyka Dempsey each added eight points.

The Bulldogs were paced by Madeline Kilbourne, who posted 12 points, and Emma Gilliard with eight points and 10 rebounds.

SHELBY 33, NORTH MUSKEGON 12 – Shelby led 5-3 after the opening quarter and 12-5 at halftime before pulling away in the third quarter and extending its lead to 27-6.

Kendall Zoulek dropped 15 points for Shelby while Lauren Brown added six.

The Norse were paced by Molly Stewart with five points.

North Muskegon fell to 2-9 on the season and 0-8 in league play.

Shelby moves to 2-9 overall and remains 0-8 in the Western Michigan Conference.

HART 54, MASON COUNTY CENTRAL 43 – Hart led 16-4 after the opening quarter and had a 26-16 lead at halftime

The Pirates were paced by Addi Hovey with 13 points, seven rebounds and five steals, while Abby Hicks had 11 points and five steals. Morgan Marvin chipped in with eight points, five rebounds and five steals.

Mason County Central was led by Jaden Petersen with 13 points and seven rebounds while Wren Nelson added 10 points while pulling down 16 rebounds.

The Spartans fall to 6-4 overall and 4-3 in conference play.

O-K GREEN CONFERENCE

MONA SHORES 51, HOLLAND 23 – The Sailors dominated and earned an O-K Green Conference victory on Tuesday night.

Mona Shores jumped out to a 14-2 lead after the first quarter and led 30-10 at halftime. The Sailors increased their advantage to 40-14 through three quarters.

Lily Miller paced Mona Shores with 12 points while Olivia Sobczak added 11. Ali Phillips and Jenna Tierman each chipped in with eight.

The Sailors are now 10-2 on the season and 5-1 in conference play.

O-K BLUE CONFERENCE

SPRING LAKE 45, HAMILTON 32 – Spring Lake trailed 8-6 after the first quarter before going on a 17-12 second quarter run to take a 23-20 halftime lead.

The Lakers extended their lead to 37-25 heading into the fourth quarter.

Ella Andree paced Spring Lake with 16 points while both Meah Bajt and Jennifer Judge each added scored 10. Judge also pulled down six rebounds.

The Lakers moved to 5-1 in the OK-Blue and are 8-3 on the season.

O-K RED CONFERENCE

GRAND HAVEN 45, GRANDVILLE 24 – The Bucs cruised to an O-K Red Conference win on Tuesday night.

Alyssa Hatzel paced Grand Haven with 11 points while Zoe Spoelman and Molly Long each scored nine.

The Bucs are now 6-5 overall and 2-4 in league play.

ALLIANCE LEAGUE

FRUITPORT CALVARY CHRISTIAN 65, WEST MICHIGAN AVIATION ACADEMY 36 – The Eagles won a league contest on Tuesday despite only have six players.

Fruitport Calvary trailed 13-9 after the first quarter but went on a 21-7 second quarter run to take a 30-20 halftime advantage.

The Eagles increased their lead to 45-25 heading into the fourth quarter.

McKena Wilson paced the Eagles with 19 points, eight assists and five steals. Avneet Cheema added 16 points, eight rebound and five steals. Reagan Payton chipped in with 13 points.

Fruitport Calvary is now 7-1 on the season and 3-0 in league play.

NON-CONFERENCE

MUSKEGON CATHOLIC CENTRAL 36, HESPERIA 19 – The Crusaders jumped out to an early lead of 17-2 after one quarter and never looked back.

MCC increased its lead to 22-6 at halftime and 30-6 through three quarters.

The Crusaders were paced by Sara Albanese with 16 points while Carrie Ladd added five.

The Panthers were led by Emma Joppich with 11 points and seven rebounds.

Hesperia is now 2-7 overall on the season, while the Crusaders improved to 4-5 overall.

NEWAYGO 48, HOLTON 26 – The Red Devils finished the first quarter up 10-7 as the second quarter but trailed 27-10 at halftime.

Newaygo increased its advantage to 42-16 through three quarters.

Holton was led by Ryann Robins with six points and 10 rebounds while Abbie Fowler added seven points and five assists.

The Red Devils are now 5-4 on the season.

POTTER’S HOUSE 57, ORCHARD VIEW 26 – Potter’s House started out strong and never looked back, leading 14-4 after one quarter and 25-9 at halftime.

After a big third, the Pumas were up 45-15 going into the fourth quarter.

Grace Gardener paced the Cardinals with nine points and four steals while Tionne Steward added five points and two steals.
