The Muskegon Lumberjacks two-game winning streak came to an end on Saturday, but they earned an important point in the standings.

The Lumberjacks lost to the Green Bay Gamblers in overtime 5-4 at the Resch Center in Wisconsin.

Muskegon is now 22-10-5 on the season, good for 49 points and first place in the USHL’s Eastern Conference. The Lumberjacks are just one point ahead of second Chicago Steel, who won in a shootout Saturday.

The Lumberjacks will continue their road trip on Friday against the Team USA Under-18 squad.

Green Bay opened the scoring with a goal from Ryan Greene at the 4:45 mark of the first period.

Muskegon countered with goals from Noah Ellis (8:34) and Nick Peluso (11:19) to take a 2-1 lead, before the Gamblers tied the game on a Jackson Hallum tally at the 13:05 mark.

The game was tied 2-2 after the opening period.

Both teams exchanged goals during the second period as Green Bay took a 3-2 lead with a tally from Cameron Lund 1:41 into the stanza.

Owen Mehlenbacher tied the contest up at 3-3 with a goal at the 16:25 mark of the second period.

The Gamblers regained their lead at 4-3 with a goal from Brody Lamb 15:43 into the third period, before the Jacks quickly tied the game 30 seconds later on a tally by Joey Larson.

The contest went into a five-minute overtime as Greene, who opened the scoring for the Gamblers, who the game with a goal 2:12 into the extra session.

The Lumberjacks outshot Green Bay by a 39-27 margin and was 0-for-4 on their powerplay, while allowing two power play goals in six Green Bay opportunities.

Muskegon’s Cameron Korpi suffered the loss in net for the Lumberjacks, stopping 22-of-27 shots on goal.
