The Muskegon Lumberjacks are all alone on top of the USHL’s Eastern Conference standings!
After a slow start to the season and a stint in last place, the Jacks finally caught Chicago last Saturday to pull into a tie for first place.
They moved ahead of Chicago on Friday night with a 5-4 victory over the Green Bay Gamblers in the first of a two-game weekend road swing.
The Lumberjacks are now 22-10-4 on the season with 48 points in the standings. Chicago, which lost to Madison on Friday, has 46 points.
Quinn Hutson led the way for Muskegon with two goals in the game, while Jake Braccini, Joey Larson and Jack Williams also found the net for the Jacks.
[1]Green Bay led 1-0 after one period after getting a goal from Jackson Hallum.
The Jacks turned on the jets in the second period, getting three unanswered goals from Larson, Williams and Hutson. Matt Deboer finally scored for Green Bay later in the period, and Muskegon led 3-2 at the second break.
Hutson scored his second goal at 2:29 of the third period, then Braccini scored at 4:54, putting the Jacks up 5-2.
Green Bay got late goals from Jarod Crespo and Hallum, but could not get any closer.
Muskegon goalie Aleksander Kuleshov stopped 31 of 35 shots to collect the win.
The Jacks and Gamblers will play again on Saturday night in Green Bay.
