An extra period was needed to decide a West Michigan Conference boys basketball showdown between North Muskegon and Montague on Friday night. The Norse battled back from a fourth-quarter deficit to force overtime before beating the Wildcats 53-48.
Montague led 12-11 after one quarter, 20-18 at halftime and 34-29 after three. North Muskegon won the fourth quarter 14-9 to draw even and outscored Montague 10-5 in the extra session to take the win.
Troy McManus paced North Muskegon with 18 points and 10 rebounds while James Young scored 10 points. Champ Young chipped in with eight points.
The Wildcats were paced by Owen Raeth with 15 points while Rodney Brassfield added 10.
The Norse are now 4-3 on the season and 2-2 in league play, while Montague is 3-2 overall and 2-2 in conference action.
WEST MICHIGAN CONFERENCE
RAVENNA 58, OAKRIDGE 50 — The Bulldogs fell behind 12-9 after the first quarter before going on a 16-4 second quarter run to take a 25-16 lead at halftime. Ravenna increased its lead to 43-25 after going on an 18-9 third quarter tear.
The Eagles finished the contest with a 25-15 run of their own but failed to complete a comeback.
Kyle Beebe paced the Bulldogs with 20 points and seven rebounds while Clay Schullo added 17 points and eight rebounds. Travis May chipped in with 14 points.
Oakridge was led by Ethan Jozsa with a game-high 23 points.
The Bulldogs are now 4-2 on the season, including 3-1 in West Michigan Conference play. Oakridge falls to 4-4 overall and 1-3 in the conference.
CSAA SILVER
HOLTON 49, LAKEVIEW 28 — Wyatt Monette paced the unbeaten Red Devils with 23 points, 13 rebounds, six blocks and six steals.
Carter Brant added 10 points, seven assists and three steals.
Holton led 9-5 after the first quarter, 22-13 at halftime and 38-17 through three quarters.
The Devils are now 4-0 on the season and 2-0 in league play.
KENT CITY 72, HESPERIA 18 — The Eagles jumped out to a 22-6 lead after the first quarter, 44-12 at halftime and 60-16 through three quarters.
Jaret Jaremillo led Kent City with 11 points, while the Panthers were paced by Maddox Mosley with 12 points.
The Eagles are now 4-2 on the season and are off to a 3-0 start in conference play. Hesperia falls to 1-4 on the season and 0-3 in the CSAA Silver.
