The Ravenna girls basketball team overcame a halftime deficit and earned their first West Michigan Conference win of the season after defeating North Muskegon 38-24 on Tuesday.
Ravenna trailed 9-7 at the end of the opening quarter and 19-15 at halftime.
The Norse struggled offensively during the second half, scoring only five total points as the Bulldogs took the lead in the third and led 25-22 entering the fourth.
Emma Gilliard led the scoring for Ravenna with 16 points while Madeline Kilbourne chipped in nine.
North Muskegon was paced by Molly Stewart, who had eight points while Josee Cooke had seven points and seven rebounds.
The Bulldogs are now 2-3 on the season and 1-2 in league play, while North Muskegon is now 1-3 overall and 0-3 in conference action.
WEST MICHIGAN CONFERENCE
MONTAGUE 45, WHITEHALL 27 – Kendall Osborne led the Wildcats with 15 points while Claire Meachem had 12.
Montague jumped out to a huge 16-4 lead in the first quarter before the Vikings cut the halftime deficit to 20-16 after going on a 12-4 run during the second quarter.
The Wildcats expanded their advantage to 27-18 heading into the fourth quarter, then closed out the game with an 18-9 tear.
Whitehall was paced by Charley Klint with 22 points and 16 rebounds.
The Vikings are currently 2-3 on the season and 2-1 in league play.
HART 49, SHELBY 33- The Pirates jumped out to a 15-2 advantage after the first quarter, led 30-11 at halftime and had a 39-22 advantage heading into the fourth.
Addi Hovey led Hart with 19 points while Mariana VanAgtmael 17.
Shelby was paced by Molli Schultz with 14 points, while Kendall Zoulek added nine points and eight rebounds.
The Pirates are now 4-1 on the season and 3-0 in conference play.
MASON COUNTY CENTRAL 39, OAKRIDGE 31 – The Spartans outscored Oakridge by a 21-8 margin during the second half to erase a five-point halftime deficit and earn a league win on Tuesday.
The Eagles jumped out to a 14-8 lead after the opening quarter and led 23-18 at halftime.
Mason County Central went on a 12-4 third quarter run and a 9-4 fourth quarter tear to seal the win.
Oakridge was led by Jasmine Pastor with 11 points while Destyni Lane added nine points, four steals and five rebounds.
The Eagles dropped their record to 1-4 on the year and 0-3 in West Michigan Conference play.
NON-LEAGUE
FRUITPORT CALVARY 43, HESPERIA 31 – The Eagles outscored Hesperia by a 22-4 margin in the fourth quarter to overcome a deficit.
The game was tied 5-5 at the end of the opening quarter.
The Panthers led 21-16 at halftime and 27-21 heading into the final quarter.
Fruitport Calvary was paced by McKena Wilson with 20 points, six rebounds, three steals and three assists. Cate Anhalt chipped in with 14 points and seven rebounds.
Emmet Tinkham paced Hesperia with 18 points and eight rebounds while Emma Joppich scored nine points.
The Eagles improved to 2-1 overall on the season.
HOLTON 31, HOLLAND BLACK RIVER 8 – Ryann Robins was the leading scorer for the Red Devils with 16 points and pulled down 14 rebounds. Gianna Reed also chipped in nine points and Abbie Fowler had six assists and five steals
The win puts Holton at an even 2-2 overall with its next game being against White Cloud on Friday.
CEDAR SPRINGS 44, FREMONT 37- The Packers allowed 12 straight points in the first quarter and trailed 14-8 heading into the second.
Fremont trailed 22-14 at halftime and 28-22 after three quarters.
The Packers were paced by Jessica Bennett and Haley Zerlaut with 11 points each while Kaitlynn Bennett added eight points and nine rebounds.
