The Mona Shores hockey team came away with one win and one loss in a long trip to the Upper Peninsula over the weekend.

The trip started out on a low note with the Sailors losing their first game of the season, 3-1 to a strong Marquette team.

Mona Shores’ Landon Taylor opened the scoring with a breakaway goal in the first period, but Marquette answered and the score was tied 1-1 heading into the second. Marquette scored again in the second period, then finished the game off with an empty-netter with seven seconds left.

Goalie Carter Dethoff played well in the loss, stopping 28 of 30 shots.

The victory came on Saturday, when the Sailors overcame a 2-0 deficit at the end of one period and rallied for a 4-3 victory over Escanaba.

Mona Shores turned the game around with four goals in the second period, including two by Landon Taylor and one apiece from Trent Benedict and Jake Nanna. Nick Kelly got the win in goal for the Sailors.

Mona Shores, now 6-1 on the season, will be back in action on Wednesday in a conference battle against Grand Rapids Christian at Lakeshore Ice Centre at 5 p.m.
