Jake Richard scores the winning goal with 90 seconds left, Lumberjacks rally for a 3-2 road victory over Green Bay

The Muskegon Lumberjacks had a miserable third period on Friday, giving up three unanswered goals and losing 6-3, so they returned the favor on Saturday.

The Jacks trailed 2-0 after two periods, then collected three goals of their own in the third period and skated away with an exciting 3-2 victory over the Green Bay Gamblers at the Resch Center in Green Bay, Wisconsin.

The winning goal came from rookie Jake Richard, who found the back of the net with only 90 seconds remaining in regulation.

Richard has been very hot lately. After playing sparingly over the first few months of the season, he now has four goals in the last week.

The Lumberjacks ended their brief one-game losing streak and have now won 11 of their last 13 games.

They improved to 13-10-3 and leapfrogged into third place in the USHL’s Eastern Conference, one point ahead of the Madison Capitols.

The Jacks will return to action in a home New Year’s Eve game on Jan. 31.

There was no scoring in the first period, then Green Bay took a 2-0 lead on goals by Brody Lamb and Alex Servagno late in the second period.

The Lumberjacks roared back to steal the win in the third period with goals by Jake Braccini (10th goal of the season, 14:15), Quinn Hutson (12th, 14:15) and Richard.

Jack Williams, Noah Ellis and Ben Strinden each had assists for Muskegon.

Goalie Platon Zadorozhnyy got the win in net for the Jacks, stopping 33 of 35 shots. Green Bay had a 35-33 advantage in shots on goal.
