Fruitport’s boys basketball team won its home-opener Tuesday night with a 53-42 victory over Muskegon Catholic Central. The Trojans used a huge third quarter to claim the win.
The offenses started slow, with Fruitport leading 10-4 after one quarter and 18-13 at halftime. In the third quarter, though, Fruitport got in a groove.
The Trojans scored 28 points in the third quarter to extend the lead to 46-24 heading to the final quarter. The Crusaders fought back, claiming an 18-7 edge in the fourth, but it wasn’t enough for a comeback.
Bode Anspach powered Fruitport on both ends of the court, totaling 16 points, 11 steals and four rebounds. Paschal Jolman chipped in 12 points, seven rebounds and four steals, while Andrew Spyke scored 10 and grabbed six rebounds.
Tramel Caviness led MCC with 11 points and eight rebounds, while Elliot Kalisz scored 10 points.
The Trojans move to 2-1 on the season with the win, while MCC falls to 0-3.
