Oakridge runs past Tri County for 58-22 Division 5 district title victory

The Oakridge football team took home a Division 5 district championship on Friday night with a 58-22 victory at Tri County.

Trever Jones broke loose for a 43-yard touchdown run to give the Eagles an 8-0 lead just 16 seconds into the game.

After the Vikings responded, to make the game 8-6, Matt Danicek found Corey Vanderputte for a 60-yard touchdown, extending the lead to 16-6 with 7:58 left in the opening quarter.

Vanderputte then scored on an 18-yard run while Jones added a 44-yard score to give the Eagles a 30-6 lead after one quarter.

Vanderputte broke an 80-yard touchdown run for the lone score of the second quarter, giving Oakridge a 38-6 halftime lead.

Danicek and Brendon Raymond scored rushing touchdown of one and three yards respectively in the third quarter to give Oakridge a 52-14 lead after three quarters.

Jones finished the Oakridge scoring with a 28-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter to make the final score 58-22.

Vanderputte totaled 207 yards and two touchdowns on 17 carries while Jones added 163 yards and three touchdowns on eight carries.

Noah MacFadyen led the Eagles defense with 11 tackles on the night. Jones totaled five tackles for loss and 10 tackles overall.

Oakridge is now 9-2 overall on the season and will travel to Grand Rapids Catholic Central for a Division 5 regional final.
