The Muskegon Heights football season came to an end Friday night with a 35-26 loss at Carson City Crystal in a Division 8 district final.
Carson City Crystal held an 8-0 lead after the first quarter with Paul Wright returned the opening kickoff for a touchdown and a successful two-point conversion.
A three-yard Bryce Stanley touchdown in the second quarter extended the Tiger deficit to 14-0. Doug Billings scored on a nine-yard touchdown to give Carson City Crystal a 20-0 halftime lead.
With seven minutes remaining in the third, Anthony Floyd Jr. punched in a one-yard touchdown run to cut the Tigers deficit to 20-6.
However, Wright returning the ensuing kickoff for a touchdown to make the score 28-6.
Ja’Kari Edwards found Hanif Guyton for a 13-yard touchdown pull Muskegon Heights within 28-12 in the third quarter.
The Eagles then scored on a touchdown from Mason Smith to Bryce Stanley made the score 35-12 after three quarters.
Edwards found Ashton Smith for a passing touchdown early in the fourth quarter to make the score 35-18.
Later in the quarter, Edwards found Guyton for a 25-yard touchdown pass to make the score 35-26. The Tigers couldn’t get any closer, however, as the comeback fell short.
Muskegon Heights finishes the season 6-5 overall, including its first playoff win in more than a decade.
