RETURNING STARTERS

Zoe Spoelman (6-2, senior, center) is a three-year varsity player who is committed to Purdue Northwest. She averaged 9 points, 7 rebounds and 3 blocks last year. Spoelman is a shot-blocker and can shoot the three. Will typically be a back-to-the-basket post player who is left-handed.

Molly Long (6-1, senior, forward) is a three-year varsity starter who averaged 9 points and 7 rebounds last season. She’s committed to Grace College in Indiana to continue playing basketball. She has good size and is solid around the rim while also able to step out and shoot the ball.

Caydee Constant (5-4 senior, guard) is a three-year varsity starter who averaged six points a game last year. She is a super quick defender who shoots the passing lane. She’ll attack the rim and hit the outside shot.

Alyssa Hatzel (5-6, senior, guard) is a three-year varsity player. She’ll play hard on both ends with her ability to score and defend well. She’s a good team leader and will play some point guard at times.

Emersen Burndt, 5-9 sophomore guard/forward

KEY NEWCOMERS

Abbey Klumple, 5-9, sophomore guard

PERCEIVED TEAM STRENGTHS

Grand Haven has pretty good size and will likely be one of the biggest teams in the conference. The Bucs also have plenty of experience returning along, with players who can deliver in the post and on the perimeter.

PERCEIVED TEAM CHALLENGES

Depth will be a challenge, because Grand Haven currently has only eight players healthy.

CONFERENCE FAVORITES

Defending state champion Hudsonville and Rockford will both be really good again this season, according to Kowalczyk-Fulmer. The Buccaneers are hopeful to be in the mix as well for a conference title.

FIRST GAME

Grand Haven will open up at Traverse City Central on December 3.

COACH QUOTE

“Winning a district title is always the goal. Muskegon and Mona Shores are both good, along with Reeths-Puffer, which has a good group as well. We’re in a competitive district and we want to win it and be competitive in regionals.” – Katie Kowalczyk-Fulmer
