Travis Rosema will be in his fourth season as the head varsity coach after coaching junior varsity for three previous seasons.
ASSISTANT COACHES
Ron Williamson, Doug Pretty, Jeff Hovey
2021 OVERALL RECORD
14-4 overall, won a Division 3 district title before falling 58-36 to Maple City Glen Lake in the regional finals.
2021 CONFERENCE RECORD
12-2 in the West Michigan Conference

RETURNING STARTERS
Jayd Hovey (5-9, senior, guard) averaged 15 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists last season while being named honorable mention All-State for the third straight season. She was voted top player in the conference last season. Hovey has worked on becoming more of a scorer by improving on her shot but will also continue to distribute the ball as a team-first player.
Morgan Marvin (6-0, senior, forward) averaged 8 points, 4.5 rebounds and three blocks last season. Marvin has a good skill set with a solid shot and ball-handling skills that are impressive at her size. Will be a matchup problem for plenty of teams and will be the defensive catalyst.
Aspen Boutell (5-5, junior, guard) was on varsity as a freshman and is considered by her coach to be the best defensive player in the conference. She’ll often take away other team’s best offensive option. Boutell had a game last season where she scored 21 points, grabbed 10 rebounds and added five assists.
Mariana VanAgtmael (5-5, junior, guard) averaged 7 points last year in her first season on varsity. She can be a scorer if needed and had 12 points in the regional final game last year.

OTHER KEY RETURNERS
Abby Hicks (5-7, sophomore guard)
Audrey Aerts (5-9, senior guard/forward)
KEY NEWCOMERS
Addi Hovey (5-10, freshman, forward)

PERCEIVED TEAM STRENGTHS
The Pirates will be quick and want to get after it on the defensive end. They’ll look to turn teams over and get easy baskets in transition. Hart is full of smart basketball players who are also very athletic.
PERCEIVED TEAM CHALLENGES
The Pirates will have to stay hungry and not overlook anyone after having plenty of success in recent seasons. They’ll also need to get out and run in transition due to a lack of significant size.
CONFERENCE FAVORITES
Coach Rosema believes his team will likely be at the top of the conference, but will have stiff competition in Montague, Mason County Central and Shelby.

FIRST GAME
The Pirates will open up at home against Mason County Central on December 3.
COACH QUOTE
“We always say win the last game. Obviously, if you do that, you win a state title. We just have high expectations. I don’t know what would be successful, but just progressing every day and getting better would be. We’ve had success in the past, and we’d like to turn the corner and win some games against bigger and better schools to continue in the right direction.” – Travis Rosema
