The Montague football squad captured another Division 6 district title, defeating Reed City 35-22 on Friday night.

The Wildcats jumped out to a 14-0 lead after the first quarter, led 28-14 at halftime and had a 28-22 advantage heading into the fourth before scoring the final touchdown of the game.

Dylan Everett, who led Montague with 197 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 29 carries, opened the scoring with a two-yard run.

Tugg Nichols caught a 51-yard pass from quarterback Andrew Kooi to give Montague a 14-0 lead after the opening quarter.

Reed City responded with a five-yard run from Nick Wirgau to cut its deficit to a 14-7 margin.

The Wildcats added a nine-yard touchdown pass from Kooi to Colton Blankstrom to increase Montague’s lead to 21-7.

Reed City made the score 21-14 with a three-yard touchdown run from Noah Morgan.

Kooi closed out the first half scoring with a 21-yard touchdown pass to Paul Olsen.

Morgan scored the lone third quarter touchdown for Reed City on a 25-yard run. Bryson Hughes scored on the two-point conversion to cut the Wildcat advantage to 28-22 heading into the fourth.

Everett closed out the scoring with a 23-yard touchdown run.

Kooi threw for 127 yards on 7-for-14 passing with three touchdowns and an interception. Nichols caught three passes for 63 yards and a touchdown while Blankstrom had two receptions for 27 yards and a score.

Izac Jarka led the Montague defense with nine tackles while Blankstrom and Hayden McDonald each had eight.

The Wildcats will face the winner of Lansing Catholic and Millington next weekend in the Division 6 regional finals.
