District tournament volleyball roundup: Spring Lake impressive with a three-set victory over Montague

The Spring Lake volleyball team beat Montague in straight sets on Monday in the first round of the Division 2 district tournament at Spring Lake High School.

The set scores were 25-17, 25-21, 25-15.

The Lakers were led by Anna Fumarolo with 11 kills, Kalli Lewkowski with eight and Ella Andree with six. Kyla Kobylak totaled 27 assists while Kendra Kieft and Brooke Bolthouse both served four aces.

Bolthouse led the Laker defense with 17 digs while Keift and Meah Bajt added 16 apiece.

The Lakers will meet Whitehall on Wednesday in the district semifinals at 7 p.m.

DIVISION 2

FRUITPORT 3, ORCHARD VIEW 0 – The Trojans launched their tournament run with a victory by scores of 25-11, 25-7, 25-16.

Aubre Johnson had six kills for the Trojans while Raegan Dykstra had 25 assists and Hope Busscher served five aces.

Kayla Kolberg paced the defense with 13 digs.

Fruitport will face Oakridge in the district semifinals on Wednesday at 7 p.m.

DIVISION 3

KENT CITY 3, LAKEVIEW 0 – The Eagles opened district play with a 25-7, 25-9, 25-7 victory.

Emmalyn Geers paced the offense with nine kills while Taryn Preston added seven. Kaila Krueger had 19 assists and Jacee Hoffman served five aces.

Krueger led defensively with nine digs while Geers and Preston each had two blocks.

Kent City, now 32-5-1, will meet Ravenna in the semifinals at Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.

DIVISION 3

HOLTON 3, MASON COUNTY CENTRAL 0 – The Red Devils won their first-round match by scores of 25-19, 25-15, 25-13.

Gianna Reed and Layna Cartwright paced the Red Devils with nine kills apiece while Ryann Robins added seven. Abbie Fowler set up the offense with 25 assists.

Defensively, Katie Petersen led with 18 digs and Cartwright had five blocks.

Holton will face Hesperia in the semifinals on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
