WMC wins Lakes 8 Conference volleyball tournament, defeats Ludington in three sets

The Western Michigan Christian volleyball team captured the Lakes 8 Conference tournament on Saturday.

The Warriors defeated Orchard View (25-15, 25-18, 25-5) and Ludington (25-7, 25-10, 25-16).

Kyla Wiersema led WMC with 33 kills, while Kendal Young had 54 assists.

Maddie Wiersema paced the Warriors defensively with 27 digs while Kyla Wiersema had eight blocks.

WMC is now 41-5 on the season.

Ludington advanced to the finals after defeating Muskegon Catholic by scores of 25-20, 25-28 and 25-6 in the semifinals.

The Orioles were paced by Keelyn Laird with 15 kills while Rylee Stone added three aces and 15 digs. Maddy Vaara chipped in with 32 assists.

Muskegon Catholic went 2-1 overall in the tournament defeating Muskegon Heights (25-8, 25-2, 25-6) and Orchard View (12-25, 25-23, 25-13, 25-14) while losing to Ludington.

The Crusaders were led by Erin LaVigne with 21 kills and 10 aces while Claire LaVigne chipped in with 32 assists.

MCC was paced defensively by Emma Maierhauser with 34 digs and Cara Burkall with five blocks.

The Crusaders are now 21-12 on the season and 5-3 in conference play.
