Spring Lake edged Fruitport in a tightly contested five-set volleyball match on Tuesday. The match not only went the distance with five sets, but four of the five were decided by just two points.
Spring Lake took the first set 25-21 before the Trojans rallied to take the second 31-29. The Lakers grabbed the lead again with a 25-23 edge in the third set, then Fruitport won the fourth set 30-28 to even the match.
Spring Lake came out on top in the final set, 15-13, to claim the win.
Kalli Lewkowski had a team-high 23 kills and four aces to lead Spring Lake. Ella Andree added 16 kills while Kyla Kobylak totaled 54 assists to go with 14 digs.
Kendra Kieft led the team with 32 digs, Meah Bajt added 17 and Brooke Bolthouse had 14.
Sydney Woods led Fruitport with 27 kills while adding 13 digs and three aces. Raegan Dykstra totaled 59 assists, 13 digs and three aces, while Kylie Rudolph had 18 kills, 16 digs and a team-high four aces.
Anna Bol led the Trojans with 34 digs and Kayla Kolberg had 13 digs.
Fruitport is now 21-17 on the season and 3-6 in conference play.
R-P falls to Zeeland West in four sets
Reeths-Puffer’s volleyball team lost to Zeeland West in the semifinals of the O-K Green conference tournament.
The Rockets fought hard in a four-set match, with each set being competitive. Set scores for the match were 19-25, 25-19, 20-25 and 21-25.
Brianna Stawski led the Rockets with 19 kills, 13 digs and a pair of aces. Sophia Hekkema contributed 10 kills and 10 digs, while Leah Ellis added 10 digs, eight kills and three aces.
Reeths-Puffer is now 20-17 on the season, including 6-3 in the conference. The Rockets will play Mona Shores in the O-K Green tournament third place match on Thursday.
Zeeland East tops Mona Shores in conference semis
Mona Shores fell in the O-K Green conference tournament semifinals against top-seeded Zeeland East on Tuesday. The Sailors fell by scores of 18-25, 25-21, 21-25 and 18-25.
Grace Norris led the Sailor effort with 14 assists, 11 digs, eight kills and two aces. Holli Brus added 16 digs and eight kills for Mona Shores, while Kyann Hellmann had 13 digs, 10 assists and three aces. Anabeth Hylland added three kills and three blocks.
Mona Shores is now 15-18-1 on the season and 5-4 in conference play. They’ll play for third place in the conference against Reeths-Puffer on Thursday.
Fremont tops Reed City, stays unbeaten in conference
The Fremont volleyball team remained unbeaten in conference play this season with a four-set victory over Reed City on Tuesday. Fremont won by scores of 27-25, 25-15, 22-25 and 25-20.
Jessica Bennett had a season-high 12 kills to lead the Packers. Carle Bruggema facilitated the offense with 29 assists. Kennedy Christoffersen had 18 digs to lead Fremont.
The win was Fremont’s 20th of the season, as the Packers are now 20-15-1 overall and 7-0 in conference play.
