Four local girls golf teams are headed to the state championship meet after strong regional performances this week. Grand Haven, Montague, Spring Lake and Whitehall all qualified with Top 3 finishes in regionals.
Montague won its second straight regional title Tuesday afternoon, winning its Division 4 Region 19 competition l by 28 strokes. The Wildcats carded a 354, well ahead of Chippewa Hills at 382.
Orianna Bylsma led the Wildcats, coming in first overall with a score of 83. Gabby Moreau finished fourth with an 88 while Mackenzie Goudreau finished fifth with a 91. Claire Meacham (92, sixth place) and Natalie Kellogg (100, 11th place) rounded out the Montague top-five scorers.
Grand Haven qualified for the state tournament with a third place finish in Division 1, Region 1. The Bucs had a team score of 393, 12 strokes ahead of fourth. Rockford (347) and Traverse City Central (366) earned the other team spots in the finals.
Caydee Constant led Grand Haven with an 83, good for third best at the meet. Samantha Campbell and Skyler Covelli both scored a 101, while Zoe Spoelman had a 108.
Mona Shores and Reeths-Puffer will compete in their regional meet on Thursday.
Whitehall and Spring Lake both earned a spot at the finals Tuesday, while Ludington just missed out finishing in fourth place.
The Vikings finished second with a 373, five strokes back of winners Forest Hills Eastern at 368. Spring Lake finished third at 377, while Ludington was fourth at 389.
Karli Vanduinen of Whitehall had the best round of the day, shooting a 77 to take first overall. Ava Garcia scored a 94 for Whitehall and Chloe Essebaggers carded a 98.
Zoe Dull and Clara Saunders led Spring Lake, both finishing tied for seventh overall with scores of 91. Kelsey Megley carded a 97 and Kayden Fritsche had a 98.
Emma McKinley led Ludington with an 86, which was good for third overall and an individual berth at the state finals. Mackenzie Sarto followed with a 99 and Julia Reed carded a 100 for the Orioles.
Fremont finished seventh with a score of 408. Top scorers were Lena Hudson and Haley Zerlaut with 97 each.
Oakridge finished in 12th place with a score of 502. Carly Morse led the team with a 113, followed by Sydnee Conkright with a 120.
Fruitport had three golfers compete, led by Mylee Mineni with a 113.
Kent City, North Muskegon and Holton also competed in the Region 19 match. Kent City shot a 478, North Muskegon carded a 497 and Holton shot a 510.
Michelle Carr led the Eagles with 105, followed by Olivia Hearth at 121. Riley McEvoy led the Norse with a 115 followed by Natalie Lorenz and Mackenna Mylenek each with a 127.
Holton was led by Zoey Carty’s 106 and Leah Fox’s 107.
In Region 21, Western Michigan Christian took ninth with a score of 459. Elisabeth Bonnema led WMC with a 105. Zoe Vanderstelt carded a 109 and Grace Sytsema scored 116.
