Hesperia picked up its first win in its season finale against Shelby Friday night, topping the Tigers 34-20. The Panthers were led by a huge performance by Brandon Quinn, who totaled 254 yards and four touchdowns on 34 rushes.
Hesperia opened the scoring in the first on a 26-yard rushing touchdown by Quinn to take a 6-0 lead. Shelby responded on a 30-yard touchdown pass from Isaiah Garcia to Travis Boughan to tie the score at 6-6 after the first quarter.
The Panthers had the lone score in the second on a four-yard rushing touchdown by Quinn. A two-point pass from Armando Escobejo to Koden Heckman put the Panthers up 14-6 at the half.
Shelby opened the scoring in the third on a 19-yard rushing touch by Cade Clement and a successful two-point run by Boughan made it 14-14. Hesperia responded on a two-yard rushing touchdown by Quinn, his third of the game. A successful two-point run gave Hesperia a 22-14 lead after three quarters.
The Panthers extended their lead in the fourth with a three-yard rushing TD by Escobejo to make it 28-14. Quinn then scored his fourth TD of the night on a 39-yard run to make 34-14. Shelby responded with a 61-yard passing touchdown from Boughan to Nick Baffi to bring the final score to 34-20.
The Panthers were led on offense by Quinn who had 254 yards on 34 attempts and four touchdowns. Escobejo added 71 yards on 12 attempts for one touchdown.
Shelby was led by Clement with 45 yards on 12 attempts for one touchdown and Baffi with one reception for 61 yards and one touchdown. The Tigers were led on defense by Blake Stovall with nine tackles and Clement with seven solo tackles and one assisted.
Shelby finishes the season 0-9, while Hesperia finishes the season 1-7.
