The Fruitport football team fought hard to the bitter end, but lost to Cadillac 42-35 on Friday in a Division 4 pre-district contest.
The game was deadlocked at 7-7 after the first quarter before Cadillac held a slim 21-14 lead at halftime. Cadillac extended its lead to 35-21 heading into the final quarter.
The Trojans outscored Cadillac by a 14-7 margin during the fourth quarter, but could not get a game-tying touchdown.
Fruitport tied the game 7-7 with a 44-yard touchdown run by Paschal Jolman.
The Trojans managed to take a brief lead at 14-13 with a 19-yard touchdown run by Aiden Vela.
Cadillac then scored 15 unanswered points to take a 28-14 advantage with 10:34 remaining in the third quarter.
Jolman cut Fruitport’s deficit to 28-21 with a three-yard touchdown with 6:39 left in the third quarter.
Cadillac responded with a three-yard touchdown run of its own with just one second remaining in the third.
The Trojans cut the deficit to 35-27 after scoring with 11:48 left in the game on a 76-yard touchdown pass from Gavin Reames to Cody Nash.
Cadillac added another touchdown with 4:43 left in the game before Fruitport closed out the scoring with one minute left on a 12-yard pass from Reames to Vela.
The Trojans end their season with a 4-6 overall record.
