Fremont falls to 1-7 overall with hard fought 46-21 loss at Reed City

The Fremont Packers were defeated by CSAA Gold rival Reed City 46-21 on Friday night.

The first quarter went by with no scoring before Reed City got a touchdown and a two-point conversion in the second. Fremont answered when Alex Gleason ran in a 1-yard touchdown with just under three minutes to go in the half to make the score 8-7.

With 47 seconds left in the first half, Reed City got a long touchdown pass and another two point conversion to go into the half with a 16-7 lead.

Reed City’s offense really got going in the third quarter, getting two touchdowns within three minutes of each other to jump ahead to a 30-7 lead.

The Packers got an answer with Justin Dirheimer scoring on a 23-yard run before Reed City struck back with a 60 yard touchdown less than a minute later.

Before the end of the third quarter Reed City got another long touchdown run, giving them 30 points in the quarter, and a 46-14 lead after three quarters.

There was one score in the fourth, a touchdown pass from Gleason to Michael Romero to make the score 46-21.

Dirheimer led the Fremont offense with 164 rushing yards and a touchdown while averaging at 6.4 yards per carry. Gleason threw for and ran in a touchdown while totaling 112 passing yards. Wei Chen led the defense with 5.5 tackles, while Romero had five.

The loss puts the Packers at 1-7 on the season and they’ll close out their season next week at Cadillac.
